Need a new printer for the house. Currently have a Canon, but I think the ink is among the highest price of all brands. What brands would you recommend that are good printers with decent ink prices? Also, I know that even though the price for the ink might be lower for some brands, does it print as many pages? For example, Kodak seems to have one of the lowest prices for ink, but are they smaller cartridges? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Can I say that though the ink prices are higher of all the printers I've had the wireless Canon Pixma I have now has to be the best printer I've owned in a long time. I have little or no problems with jamming, clears easy when it does (and usually it's because the kids have launched a nerf bullet into it :rolleyes1 ). The Kodak printer I had lasted only a few days before it started not working right the lexmark only last a few months. Also, compared to my Lexmark and my Kodak the cartridges also last a lot longer. Plus the colors are brighter and it prints faster.

I have a Canon Pixma that I got Black Friday a few years ago. Although I'm not sure about the ink prices as I never replaced the ink in it.

HP's especially the officejet line have larger ink carts. Ours is a photosmart 7760, the printer is on just about every other day, usually up to 30 sheets per week on average. It takes a good few months for the ink to finally get low on it. The black ink is around $25, but the color runs twice as much. Then there's also the photo color that's about $35. You'd use a standard color cart and a photo color cart instead of black when printing pictures or high quality colored prints.

I have a Canon PIXMA printer and am trying to decide between buying ink because I am out or buying a new printer. I could buy a new printer for the price of the ink! We do not print photos on it so that is not really a feature that I want to pay extra for the quality. Mostly recipes and things that I could do grayscale printing for. Have not come up with a good solution yet for us though.

I can't recommend a printer without know what you print, how often you use it, etc.

This really depends on what you are printing, how often, page volume, space considerations, how much you are looking to spend for the initial purchase, do you need networked/wireless/usb, etc
