DS is turning 6 soon and has been asking for an MP3 player. I don't want to spend alot of money on it, but I don't want something that is going to fall apart the first day he uses it. I know nothing about MP3 players, so I have no idea about cost, models, where to buy, etc. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

I'm bumping this up in search of responses. Anyone? Maybe I used the wrong terminology? When I said MP3 player, I meant a little handheld/pocket device that music is downloaded onto and you can listen to with earphones. Hoping someone has some info. Thanks.

Strange, no replies? Not sure why:confused3

An inexpensive MP3 player that is pretty sturdy and has great sound is the Sansa Clip.

It is a tiny little thing and you can clip it to clothing without having to carry it around (and drop!).

There is the normal Sansa Clip which can have 1 or 2GB

Isn't it cute! And costs anywhere from $20 (great sale) to $35. The info says it will hold 1,000 songs

And the Sansa Clip+ is pretty nice too. The + means that it has an expandable flash drive. So a Sansa Clip+ with 4GB can be expanded to 8GB by adding a 4GB microSD card. Lots of memory there. They cost around $40 new, I got mine for $20 refurb).

This sums it up:

Thank you both for the replies! Going to check out the Sansa. Thanks again!

Our oldest daughter has a Disney Mix Stick. Its okay for her, she got it when she was 3 years old andjust recently started using it alot. The only thing I dont like is that you cant see what song is playing, you just have to keep clicking through until you find the song you want. I only paid $8 for it, so it works for what she "needs" it for.

Since she started using hers again, our youngest daughter started wanting something to listen to music on too, so she is using DH's old Sansa C250. It has a small screen on it where you can see what song it is, and a menu where you can search by artist or song. I think it cost around $25-30 on Overstock.com when I bought it for him for Christmas in 2009.

Everyone (but me) in my family has the Sansa Fuze. I've read a lot of bad points about the Clip when I was buying mp3 players for my kids.

The Fuze is great, just don't run it over with the lawn mower ;), it won't handle that, LOL. The Fuze sounds great if you throw out the junk earbuds that comes with it. My kids and wife don't mind the earbuds, but as a bit more of an audio freak myself, they sound horrible. I steal one of their Fuze when I mow the yard and use a much better $15 pair of earbuds and it sounds great.
