DH & I talked early this AM.
His job is on the 'rocks' - may or may not be there in June. His resumes are going out.

I am going to look for a part-time job in my area to earn some $$'s and still be around when our kids get home from school.

So we may not be able to go to WDW June 2011 - event though we have JetBlue credits (enough to pay for our fligts), our 10 day park-hopper tickets (pre-bought from undercover), and $2000 in Chase Visa DDRD's (could pay for hotel) - we so not have enough money for food.
AND - DH said we can not justify going to WDW without jobs.

Please pray my DH either does not get laid off or can find another job -
and pray for me on 3/24/10 @ 11 AM when I have a part-time job interview
;)

Thank you :thumbsup2

You already have whatever your food budget normally is for those days, just sayin' . . .:rolleyes1

If you consider those dollars and save $5 & $10 at a time, it could work. You're talking about going in 2011; a lot bad could happen, but a lot good could happen in that time, too.

Sending positive thoughts your way! :goodvibes

I bet you could stretch that into hotel and food money.

I realize that most people pray for mundane things as earthquake and hurricane survivors, things like catastrophic illness and death, but if you need prayers for a Disney trip, your life must be charmed.

I would like to say, "prayers said" but I won't insult the other board members dealing with real problems.

Amen.

I'll say a prayer for the jobs, but if it was me, I would put the tickets in a safe box, and go another time. When DH was out of work it took 3 years to find a comparable job. From someone who has been through it, you really need to keep your money in savings right now. Good Luck.

I think she was not just asking to pray that she can go on a trip but that she hubby does find a job to pay for necessities as well as her Disney trip and that she does well on her interview. I don't think OP was implying that her problems were more important than anyone elses.

Good Luck with your interview OP! Hope everything works out for you and your family.

We are in a similar position.....and we are going and I am trying not to feel too guilty about it :guilty:

I lost my job last year and am working a temp contract. DH just lost his job in February. He is collecting and we both have PT jobs to help make ends meet. We are both sending resumes out like crazy and been on a few interviews, but nothing has panned out yet. Our trip is in April.

Our trip was booked last October and paid for then. If we could cancel and get our money back we would....but at this point we won't really get anything back. We used DVC points (can't get those back), AP's (expire beg of May) and airfare is nonrefundable. My mom travels with us and really wants to go so she is giving us 1/2 the money for the dining plan. We are doing the QS dining plan. So we basically have to come up with $250 dollars for the rest of the dining plan and a bit extra for incidentals. We decided to go since we couldn't get most of the money back anyway and we couldn't really postpone. We just won't be goint back again for a long time :sad1:

OP, with the $2000 in cards, it sounds like you could easily do the trip and not cost anything extra. Just wondering why you wouldn't go? The one good thing about going when you aren't working is you don't have to worry about using up vacation time!

I think you can go on the $2000 at a value with QSDP. Sometimes lowering our plans such as hotel choices or dining can make a trip more affordable. If it was Disney on a budget or no Disney I know what I would choose. :goodvibes We have done Disney off-site with eating breakfast at hotel and taking lunch in and eating dinner off-site and we have done BC and Deluxe dining. Both trips hold fond memories of the fun my kids had. :cloud9:

Good luck! We were in a similar situation last August with Dh not working much and not wanting to hit the savings account for our trip. We bought very little extra and had a great trip. We had the cheap airline tickets, Dd and I had Ap's left so we went value and had a great time!

As your children are in high school/college do you really need to be there after school? :confused3 Maybe get a job - either part time or full time - and put money away for the vacation or in the event of your spouse's job loss.

Good luck!

Many who pray, believe that they are praying to one who cares about them and both the large and small things in their lives.

I hope that that is vague enough not to violate board rules, but your post was just so unnecessarily rude and sarcastic that I felt compelled to respond.

I am one of the board members with real problems, DD5 is special needs, Everyone has different issues in their lives and it is not going to hurt anybody to say a pray for this family. Who decides who is prayer worthy? and is my DD5 prayer worthy in your eyes or is her disability not bad enough?

I am sorry for my post but this really made me mad. I am a christian and proud of it and I will pray for anyone who feels they need a prayer said for them. And Lifenthetropics I will be saying a prayer for you for more compassion.

I wish you the best of luck, trip wise and job wise! I hope some pixie dust comes your way! :wizard:

ITA! Pray without ceasing seems to cover all things. Here's to prayers  and pixie dust for OP. pixiedust:
Hope lifenthetropics has a better day tomorrow.

My Mother taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say it at all. This is just inappropriate.

Haha! Mrs. Bradbury, you are trouble! :stir:

Ang

You know, that's been my nickname on more than one occasion!

In the OP's case, I think there's no reason to call off the trip yet. Hope is a wonderful, joyful emotion. She has over a year to come up with any extra money and it sounds like it's 90% already paid for. :woohoo:

Last year we had a trip planned for October, in September I found out that the factory I worked for was closing. My husband owns a construction business and that had been on a downslide for most of the year. We had to make a decision. Since the trip was paid for we went, it was a nice break to what had been a very tough year for us and it was healing for us in a way.

Since then the construction business has been strong for us and I'm using my unemployment as an opportuntiy to learn a new skill so that I can improve my own career status.

Many things can happen between now and 2011 and it seems to me that you have most of your trip already covered. Start a change jar, take the PT job, put up a few dollars here and there, before you know it you'll be at WDW :goodvibes

Good luck and prayers to you
