Does anyone ever need more volume for their headphones? Like for example listening to your music or watching the in flight movie and the volume isn't load enough.

I bought noise cancelling headphones and now I don't need as much volume to hear the movie, radio etc. on the plane.

I have had a problem for years with the vloume on planes. I just could not hear anything.
So like SafetyMon I went out and bought a set of noise cancelling headphones. Upside is I can use the new headphones on my laptop computer also. Plus I do not have to pay that annoying $5 to the airline every trip.

The only reason I ask is because I could never hear any music or movie above the noise of the plane. So what I did was build a headphone amplifier, it can be fit into a package around the size of an ipod and it really solved the problem. The first one I built cost me the same amount as one sold at radio shack ($20.00) and it out performed it ten fold. If you'd like to find one try ebay and do a search for "cmoy". That will pull up several headphone amplifiers. I also bought noise canceling headphones but I went back to my regular ones with the amp and it sounded better.

Hope this helps. You can PM me if you need help finding one

I feel a lot better after I get off the plane now after using the noise cancelling headphones. All that fighting to hear on the plane gave me a headache and tired me out. I am ready to go now after flying. Best money I ever spent was on the headphones.

gee i hadnt thought of headphones on the plane, we dont realy fly much. Are they just standard headphone i can pickup anyplace? Or should i be looking for a special jack? Any help would be great. TIA
Tink~

Radio Shack sells noise cancelling headphones at a good price. Usually they come with adapters for car or plane use.

If you buy or build a headphone amplifier or if you can turn up the volume using the armrest control or if you are using your own walkman turned up high I think you should not put the headphones directly in your ear but rather let them rest off to one side. Having headphones that loud for whatever reason will hurt your ear.

If you have or can get those bud type headphones that hang in your ear with no rigid headband, you can also get a dummy noise cancelling headset like the ones the airline folks down on the tarmac wear and put that over your ears with the real headphones inside. The dummy headset I think costs only about USD 20.00 and unlike electronic ones and cell phones you can use it all the time during the flight.

One time many years ago at work (in an old fashioned computer room with noisy air conditioning) everyone except I brought a walkman. There was one phone that everyone shared and I got tired of doing all the answering and calling people to the phone when none of the calls were for me. So I got one of those dummy headsets and ran a piece of string from it to my empty shirt pocket to simulate an audio cable. Then I, too, ignored the ringing phone pretending not to hear.
