I will be traveling with DH, 2 DS's (4 & 6), my mom & my dad (his very first trip :cool1: ). My boys loved seeing the monorail on our last trip and I would really like to take them on it this time. I am looking for a restaurant at a monorail resort that the whole family will enjoy.

My mom is a very picky eater and doesn't like seafood, eats very little red meat and doesn't like anything to "froofy". Basic grilled chicken or pasta works for her. I've looked at the menus on All Ears Net and I'm just not sure if I can find anything to satisfy her. I'm thinking the Concourse Steakhouse has the best options for her, but I've read that there is very little atmosphere her.

HELP!!! I really want to do this but I'm just not sure where we should to go. :confused3

Concourse Steakhouse isn't bad, but it is a bit short on atmosphere. You can see the monorails going through, but you can also see all the stuff going on next door at Chef Mickey's which might be distracting for your little guys.

We have been to Chef Mickey's for dinner once and it was fine, but it gets very spotty reviews.

We love Kona Cafe at the Polynesian, and we also like the buffet at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. Good luck - lots of choices!

Have you looked at the menu for Grand Floridian Cafe? It is a beautiful restaurant and the food is always very good. It is not as bustling as Kona or Concourse Steakhouse and looks out at the grounds of the GF.

We love Kona as well. They are very accomodating and will substitute rice for potatoes, leave off sauces, etc..

Any of the restaurant suggestions already listed would be great, but if you're going to ride over on the monorail be sure to ask a CM if you can ride in the very front of the monorail right in front of the conductor... When I took my 3 yr old cousin she loved being in the front - you get a whole different monorail experience!

Remember, though, that you have extra family with you and they'll allow no more than 4 people in the monorail cab, so you might want to work out which adults will ride there with the kids if you want to do this.

I second the Grand Floridian Cafe. It's not too "froofy". My very basic meat and potatoes guys were fine with it. It's a little bit more upscale but not that bad (even for the Grand Floridian). Varied menu. After dinner, take your kids to the marina and you can get some great shots of them with the castle in the background.

You will see a lot of people saying Chef Mickey was not to their liking, but I have to say we went for dinner there several years ago and everyone in our group loved it.
This is actually the only restaurant we are donng this coming trip that we did last time.

On our last visit we frequented the Grand Floridian Cafe more than any other restaurant. Perhaps it was breakfast convenience. 1900 Park Fare is a terrific alternative to Chef Mickey's with Big Bertha the band organ and Mary Poppins. If you end up at the GF Cafe for a breakfast, try the corned beef hash (very different but EXCELLENT). GF Cafe and it's staff are both top notch and nice but not a lot of froo froo!!!

I have to suggest Chef Mickey's. We have always thought the food there is just fine. It's great fun, you see the monorail passing overhead throughout your meal, there are lots of choices to suit everyone's taste. Definitely get the mashed potatoes--they are soooooooooooooo good. Characters galore, plus the Celebrate song! It's a great introduction to Disney, fun and a decent meal too. We make it our first dinner traditionally.

Enjoy!

I would try 1900 Park Fare for a buffet, or the Grand Floridian Cafe.

1900 Park Fare has an excellent character breakfast, and the Grand Floridian Cafe was wonderful for breakfast - try the banana stuffed french toast, it's YUMMY!

KONA!!!! KONA!!!! I know she doesn't eat alot of meat- but the Beef Teriyaki is yummy and the ambiance is wonderful. That sweet smell when you step into the lobby is just fantastic. We loved it so much that we are staying at the Poly for the first time this summer*we were at the GF last year. The GF Cafe is nice but I wasn't crazy about the food(I had the chicken pasta and it was not my taste) But the service was great. But for the fun I still vote Kona at the Poly- you can catch the fireworks from the beach when you are done. :cheer2:

I would say Cef Mickey's as well. If you have two boys then they may think 1900 Park Fare as a bit 'girly', Chef Micky has food that anyone would like. It has had some mixed reviews, but I have never had any problems there. Also, it ma be worth looking at 'Ohana, agian, good for those who like their meat, as it is cooked on skewers and brought to the table.

I agree with Chef Mickey's. We've had dinner there twice and enjoyed it both times. The boys will love all the attention they are getting from the characters, and with so many food choices on the buffet, everyone is sure to find something they like.

I have to agree with the posters who said KONA! We loved it so much we went twice. It was awesome! They were very accomodating and one night let my son and I split a meal (he really wanted the steak!) and the other night we had 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals and my younger son was not feeling well so the waitress suggested that we take 4 cheesecakes to go! (it was the only thing that would travel well). The staff really went above and beyond both visits to make it a pleasurable visit. We really also love Chef Mickey's but we have only been for the breakfast. HTH!

Thank you everybody for your wonderful suggestions. I took them and sat down with mom and looked at the menus at All Ears Net. She decided that Kona looked the best to her. We are already doing a character meal that morning for breakfast, so we agreed that Chef Mickey's and 1900 Park Fare might be too much. I think we might have a winner!
