Can anyone here recommend a great piece of luggage? DH is on a business trip with our set and just told me the seams are starting to rip on the larger bag. I'm hoping it at least makes it back home in one piece! The bags we have are Skyway brand (bought at Kohls probably about 5-6 years ago) and have made many trips with us, so I'm not entirely surprised they are starting to wear out.

I was looking at the Mother Lode duffle on eBags since I've seen that name here before. Who here has that bag? What size? Not sure if the 29" will be too big and easy to overstuff(ie: exceed the 50 lb limit)

Any other suggestions for a good quality bag that won't break the bank? Do you guys like the rolling duffles better than a traditional suitcase?

I prefer Swiss Army bags - usually the traditional suitcase rather than a duffle. It's easier for me to wheel around the airport. I normally get our luggage at Costco so it's cheaper. I've also had good luck buying suitcases at Ross. As long as you don't care about having all matching luggage, Ross is usually a good bet because you can find good brands at a pretty good discount. We get the cloth Swiss Army suitcases there for about $50-$90 depending on the size. The hardsided Swiss Army suitcases are also great, but they are hard to find and generally much more expensive.

I love the rolling duffels and have an LL Bean rolling duffel that I have used for years. Mine is a bright kelly green they don't sell anymore and has my last name embroidered on it, so it's impossible to miss coming around the luggage carousel. OT: packing folders and packing cubes are great for organizing duffels (or any suitcase really).

I also have (and use) the Hey's Exotic Spinners. They are pretty expensive, but I bought the 20" and a 26" plaid spinners at Marshalls for like $69.00 and $79.00 respectively. They are very light and so easy to maneuver around. You can push or pull them with just two fingers, even when they are fully packed.

thakns for the suggestions. I am going to look around at Marshall's and TJ Maxx this week. I wish I had known about the bag falling apart on Sunday; we were in NH for a wedding and I could have checked out the LL Bean outlet while we were up that way:headache: I like to poke aound in there for bags/luggage. I have found great bargains on the canvas totes and backpacks before. Would have been great to find a deal on a rolling duffle.

I have purchased many pieces of Ricardo Beverly Hills luggage half price with an additional percentage off at Kohl's. The brand is available from Macy's at generally higher prices. As a matter of fact I bought two smaller Roll-Aboard pieces yesterday to add to the large suitcases I bought about seven years ago. I also purchased a set for my son who has taken them all over the U.S. and to Europe and Australia with no problems at all.

When your husband returns you may want to investigate having your current luggage repaired if possible.

If you look in the sale section of the LL Bean website they have some luggage/bags there.
