Issa ...........you are way out of line here...........Virgo (OP) is one of the fairest dearest animal lovers on this board, and she is going above and beyond what most of us would do, she has stated that she is giving it a few days, she has stated that she has made posters, gone door to door, called the rescue orgs. She is simply getting her options in order ahead of time if need be, this woman has a houseful of cats and has opened her door instead of turning the dog into animal services who after 3 days would probably put an end to this animals life. She should be applauded for doing ALL that she is doing!marlasmom said:Issa - that is outrageous. She is making great efforts to find the owner. Your accusations are unwarranted.
I totally agree with this. She found a dog and is looking for the owners but if they can't be found there are people willing to give the dog a good home. If I were closer I would offer as well because my one daughter has one and the other would love tp have a black lab for herself. Black labs are faithful and sweet dogs and very protective.marlasmom said:Issa - that is outrageous. She is making great efforts to find the owner. Your accusations are unwarranted.

second..I am appalled at the jumping to "take" this dog..or to keep him. He obviously has an owner somewhere and though through what unfortunate events led him to be out and without his tags...he is still probrably someone beloved pet.
To think its just a windfall of good luck that there is a free purebred dog just out for the taking is horrible.
This is my greatest fear if my dog ever got loose...that no matter how much my children were crying for their "taco" (yes....when we adopted him he stole and ate platter of tacos in 3.5 secs within 5 mins of walking in the door) that there was someone out there saying
" wow, what a great mannered dog..he's great on the leash and with kids..lets just keep him" and we would never find him ( yes he is microchiped...but doesnt do a lot of good when a person has no intention of trying to find the owner)
Please make a good effort to find the owners. Just because he doesn't have the tags on at that moment - doesn't mean he is completely neglected.
*my older daughter at one time accidently clipped the leash to the tag loop instead of the collar loop...one tug and those tags were off*
finding a lost dog is just that...finding a LOST dog....that needs to go home....no matter how pure its breeding or how well behaved. On a side note....dogs aren't born with manners....someone must have cared enough to teach the dog.

Today is Sunday and down here animal control won't come out unless it's an emergency. I'm going to put up signs all around here. Tomorrow I'll call all the Vets in the area, any animal shelters I can find and put a found ad in the local paper.

Virgo10 said:Yikes! I thought I had made myself clear but for those who didn't get it, here goes.
What I have already done:
Put up 20 posters within a 2 mile radius of my house.
Called the police dept. in two towns and also the sheriff's office. All have my contact information.
Called the only Emergency Vet in our area and left my contact information.
Been in contact with a Lab rescue organization.
What I will do tomorrow:
Take him to my Vet to be checked for a microchip.
Call all the Vets in this town and the surrounding towns.
Call the Shelters in this town and the surrounding towns.
In the mean time, I will keep him here for the next week. He is fed, out of the elements and is getting lots of TLC. Have I toyed with the idea of keeping him myself if all else fails? Yes but I would much rather see him go to someone who is more of a dog person then I am or, better still, back home with his family.

So Jackson is now back home with his family.
