Need Input. We Found a Dog! Wonderful Update!!!! Post 34

Virgo-

I'm so glad Jackson found his family, and that he was lucky enough to meet you when he was lost!

There are so very many wonderful dogs (and cats) who need homes, and that are being fostered by rescue organizations all over the country while they wait for their forever home. Mutts, purebreds, puppies, young adults, seniors, tiny dogs, huge dogs, and everything in between are out there waiting for a family to love.

Here are just a few photos of orphans on Petfinder.com who are waiting:

Oh, quit that pulling at my heartstrings, I've had quite enough of that today. I just spent the afternoon with a couple of pups that my friend is babysitting for the weekend. Her friend is fostering them and went away for the weekend. We're not in the market for any more pets (we have 2 dogs and 4 cats), but don't think my kids didn't try to talk me into it. :teeth:

I wish I were not such a softy--I want them all! Thankfully I have a DH who is reasonable and reminds me that we have a full house.

Oh my gosh, what an ADORABLE kitten (of course, I'm biased--I have an 18 year old marmalade cat who I found on my birthday 17 years ago).

I have been told by a few people that marmalade cats have a genetic disposition to be mellow...your kitten doesn't look mellow though! :goodvibes (Is any kitten mellow??? :rotfl: )

My dd is sitting her in love with you kitty  What a cutie!

But that Gracie pup in your sig is adorable, too!!!

What breed is she? Looks like she'll grow up to be a big girl. :)

I am so happy to hear the update.

the top portion of my post was in no way directed at the OP...it was directed at the following posts ..one in particular mentioned keeping the dog...or the "I will take him"

I saw she was looking for the owners and i implored her to further do that.

To lose a pet is heart breaking and the thought of a lost dog wandering into a yard and the "staying" for 12 years....breaks my heart at the people left behind crying with the whole in their heart.

That was the direction of my post...it was in NO way an attack on the OP.....but a statment of the opinion against keeping stray or lost dogs just because thier lost.

I applaude you, what your doing is standard procedure. :thumbsup2 We did it with the Golden we found, in fact, we went door-to-door within a 3 block radius, no takers! :confused3 As far as Issa is concerned: GO BACK TO LURKING! :sad2:

telling someone to go back lurking.....hmmmmm expressing an opinion

i guess thats not as bad as telling someone to steal a dog...that makes a LOT of sense.. OP did a wonderful thing by trying to find the owners as well as getting the dog out of harms way (being a busy street and such).

but telling someone to keep the dog is like telling someone to take a car they found the keys to...its obvious that the dog has an owner, just as its obvious that the keys have an owner.

virgo you did the right thing, seems as some people would have just kept the dog...

Lab, and I would keep him. :confused3 I had a Golden also show up out of the blue, 18 years ago, the neighbors next door were scared of him, so IN our Backyard he came.......and stayed for 16 wonderful years. :goodvibes I named him Maxwell Smart, Maxx for short, and he sure was a great dog, and got along with everyone, cats, and all. ;) The cats will just have to get used to him.

as far as go back to lurking.... what ever ..I will take your dog stealing opinion for what its worth :sad2:

About an hour ago we got a phone call from a neighbor of the people who he believed owned our doggy guest. He was going to call them but wanted to make sure we still had the dog. Well the maybe owners called and gave me all the information I needed. It was their dog!! :Pinkbounc

If I had even the slightest doubt, it totally disappeared when Jackson saw his mommy and human brother. He went absolutely nuts. :teeth: So Jackson is now back home with his family.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and especially marlasmom for offering to give this dog a home. That reminds me, if you are interested in a Lab, the lady I spoke with from the Lab rescue told me they currently have 100 dogs waiting for adoption. Email me if you'd like her contact info.

So a great ending to a rather interesting 24 hours.

COOL!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Great ending. I feel so sorry for lost pups.

I think that ISSA had a good point just maybe it wasn't said or taken in the right way. I think all of us who have animals HOPE that someone would be like Virgo and take our baby and do what they could to get it back to us if at all possible. It's scary to think though that within a day someone else might decide to just keep it and not try to find it's rightful owner. Unfortunately dogs do get away despite an owner's best intentions and I think we all have to do the right thing and try to find the home it belongs to before deciding to just "keep it". I think that's all that he/she meant. It's a good PSA though to remember ID tags!! They are so important and they can mean the difference in getting Fido back home or never seeing him again. They are so cheap and so worth it!!

Excuse me, I didn't tell her to STEAL the Dog. I went door to door to find the owners to the Golden and guess what? NO-ONE claimed him. So, what was I suppose to do, let him "wander the streets.?" :sad2: I will ignore you from now on....

Any central Florida people interested in adopting a needy Lab, here's the website of the rescue group that contacted me.

Mid-Florida Retriever Rescue

Great plug! They're a fantastic group.

I'm on that website once a week. We've finally convinced DH to get a dog, but are waiting until after our California trip.

What a wonderful happy ending. :)

I found my puppies from petfinder.com. I went to see one but had to take home what they called her sister too.
