So have always loved Disney...DH had planned on proposing to me during a trip to Disney but I broke up with him before he could (long story) then after about a month decided I was wrong and that I did want to marry him so I got him a ring and proposed to him during a golf outing fundraiser (we had not talked in weeks so was really going out on a limb!!) Anyway....would love to have a VR next year for our 15th.....my questions are these

1. would you ever do a VR just you and your DH and no one else?
2. would you have your original diamond reset, get new set, or just aniversary band?
3. would you wear your original wedding dress (if you could fit back into it :scared1:)

OK so here is why I ask:
have always wanted to take a trip just the 2 of us (we have 3 kids who are 12, 11 and 9), would love to invite some of original wedding party but my maid of honors husband is dying of cancer and his best man died 2 years ago so......

the prong is broke on my engagement ring and am thinking of getting it reset anyway (have always liked it but always wanted white gold and not yellow)

Not sure what you wear....LOVE my original dress and would LOVE even more to have pics at Disney in it (that is if I could get back into it yikes)

Have time to plan (would be November 30, 2011)....thought about maybe on the cruise ship and have ceremony on the beach...

Thoughts..suggestions????

I would totally do it just the 2 of us and hope to do it on our 10th.

No I wouldn't get my ring re-set. I might get an eternity ring though.

I would get a new dress.

If the prong on your ring is broken, you should have it fixed before the diamond falls out and is lost. If you want white gold, get it reset. I don't see it as a big deal.

I would not wear a big white wedding dress to a VR.

I'm hoping to do a DFTVR in the next couple of years, so I'll chime in with my two cents ;)

1. would you ever do a VR just you and your DH and no one else?
Yes! We actually came {this close} to doing that this year but we decided against it because the timing just didn't work out with the length of our trip, etc. But I think it would be very romantic.

2. would you have your original diamond reset, get new set, or just aniversary band?
I don't think I'll be getting a new ring in conjunction with the VR, but I am getting my original diamond reset this year because there is a weird spot on my band that has always bugged me and one of the prongs is getting worn down from rubbing against my wedding band.

3. would you wear your original wedding dress
For me, this is a no. My dress is preserved away and I'm going to keep it that way. I feel like it had it's moment in the sun. I think when the time comes I may go in the opposite direction and wear a really bright color, like hot pink:cutie:. I say wear whatever you are comfortable with.

So was hoping to do this Nov 30, 2011 (its a Wednesday so we would be good to go)...had not discussed with DH yet as I was maybe thinking of surprising him with another proposal (he might say "NO" this time as he still has not gotten over me ruining all his proposal plans:lmao:)

ANYWAY..my mother just reminded me that she is planning on me and my 2 sisters and families going down in May/June of 2011....now I don't know what to do...there is no way I can see swinging 2 trips in 6 mths plus the expense of a VR:confused3

I am so bummed right now.....guess I have a little time to figure something out. I was really excited to because we had a big christmas theme to our wedding (I carried poinsettia's) and we had pictures at my parents in front of the big christmas tree....I was so going to have pics taken at MK with the castle lit and the xmas decorations up....darn it all anyway!!!

Can you tell your DM about the surprise and do the VR in May/June or ask your mom to go in Nov instead?

I think if I was going through all the hoopla of a VR with dresses and flowers and everything I'd want my kids (and family if possible) there. It's 15 years! Celebrate!!

I did kind of think about doing it in May/June when everyone would be down there but am torn between that and having a romatic just the 2 of us VR.....

So is this to much for a VR dress?
I have already had the big wedding...we will be married 15 years (I will be 44 at the time)...I am thinking it is only going to be the 2 of us..would like it to be on the beach during Disney Cruise....is this to much for that????

Honest opinions please...

Hi
I am having a VR in May 2011 in Disney and I went through the same dilemas as you are. Here are the questions I asked myself and the answers I gave myself
Am I too old to have a VR? (I am 46) - No, you are never too old to reaffirm your commitment to one another
Am I too old for the white (or ivory) dress thing? - possibly some people may think so, but I don't care. I hired a dress for my wedding and I wasn't entirely happy with it so I am determined to have what I want this time. I haven't gone for the huge puffy skirt thing and think my dress is tasteful and suits me. I have lost nearly 52 pounds in weight and want to show that off too!!
Do I really want to spend all that money when I have already had a wedding? - It is probably not the most sensible use of my money but I am a paramedic and if my job teaches me anything, it is that you are here today and gone tomorrow. Life is not a dress rehersal and if you really want something (and can reasonably afford it!!) then I say go for it. This was my philosophy when I fullfilled my dream of buying in to DVC 3 years ago and I have no regrets about achieving that ambition and don't think I will about this one either!!
The bottom line is that at our age;) we know our mind and what we want and we should go for it!!! Having a special day is not sole right of the young and us older princesses are entitled to our dreams too!!
Ignore those who say 'Do not spend that money' or 'Do not wear that dress' or 'You are too old for all that stuff'. You do what you feel is right for you and DH.
Go for it and enjoy every last moment!!!
Here is my dress by the way, and I think yours is perfect!!!

;) I am an old paramedic turned trauma nurse and my DH is a firefighter/paramedic so I can so totally relate!!!!

I want something...just not sure what as of yet. I really like the dress...love the color (not white or ivory)...in a few pounds:rotfl: I am going to go try a few on!!

Please have the day and dress that you want. The only thing that matters is that you and hubby are happy. Don't regret anything that you can afford.

I love your dress!! For Castaway Cay it's a little formal but I have seen lots of pictures of brides in formal dresses on the beach. If it's your dream dress then do it! :)

The dress is beautiful; wear what color you want! Do what is meaningful for you and your husband.

I was a little afraid of that...did not want anything to formal yet not something that you would wear out for just any occasion. Am still looking but this really caught my eye...

As long as your DH is in a tux it will be fine. :goodvibes

I bought my dress before we considered a castaway cay wedding. Eventually our guest list got too big and between the planners and construction on the island and everything else we switched to WDW, but one of my big concerns was that I didn't think I could wear my dress on the beach - it was HUGE. Your dress is at least small enough so you could walk on the beach without a lot of trouble. Also in Nov it hopefully won't be too hot.

Overall I like it - I would get it.
