Need info on split stay and tickets

Ok, we're doing a split stay in the fall...
1st 1/2 have DVC
2nd 1/2 GF
I have a question on tickets. We're not getting an annual pass, just want to get a hopper pass. I originally planned on putting it on the GF reservation, but if thats the 2nd half of the trip, will that work to use the tickets at the DVC resort, and starting day 1? Or should I book the hopper along w/the DVC reservation, and just transfer it to GF? Anyone done this before, and which would be the less complicated? Thanks.

If you purchase a package that includes a ticket for the GF, you can't get the ticket until you check in.

If this were my trip, I'd buy the ticket ahead of time (from one of the online ticket brokers) to get a discount. I would just keep the ticket separate from my room key.

I would NOT put the ticket on my room key when I checked into the DVC Resort. Although it is possible to transfer a ticket from one room key to the next, most CMs don't know how to do it (I'm told it is a giant pain to do) and will tell you that it can't be done. So you will have to carry your "old" room key anyway. I think it is just easier to keep the ticket separate, rather than carry around two room keys.
