Anyone have any info on the places we have available to trade to in Las Vegas? Yes, I know, poor use of points, but we have some points we won't be able to use up before we lose them in February. I have a business trade show I have to go to in January and I'm thinking of using points instead of paying cash for a room. We're going to work, not play, and I'm hoping for something with a little comfort so we can relax in the room in the evenings.

I noticed there are 4 or 5 trades available thru Interval International. A week is about right, but I can't tell if January is low season or what.

Any info is appreciated.

Since I'm not DVC (yet), I don't know off hand. However, since I'm in Vegas quite a bit, if you give the different locations, I should be able to help you out on what the resorts are like.

The resorts listed for LV are:

The Carriage House - a block or 2 from the strip, near Aladdin, mostly studios and 1br's, a few 2 br's.

Polo Towers and Villas at Polo Towers - studios, 1 and 2 br's, on the strip, near MGM, the Villas are very nice!

Club de Soleil - 2 miles off the strip on Tropicana, studios, 1 and 2br's, nice property, free shuttle to the strip.

Monarch Grand Vacations, Cancun Resort - on LV Blvd 3 or 4 miles south of the strip, I don't know as much about this one, but if DVC approved it, it must be nice.

My choice would be Polo towers or Villas. They're close to the action of the strip and get great reviews. You can do a search for Nick's review from last year, lots of details.

All LV weeks are RED, so make good use of your points. I personally would look at other options other than using points. You may find a good rate from a hotel at or near your convention. Good luck, let me know of any other questions!

i agree, a very bad use of points. Why don't you rent the points or sell a stay for three-four nights on Disney via Ebay?

But, with all the option, Polo towers is probably your best bet.

Have fun!

I'm figuring renting points right now would almost be more trouble than it's worth. Right now it's not about renting the points, it's about getting the reservation. Everything is sold out for Food & Wine through about Nov 15th, sold out from Thanksgiving virtually all the way through New Years. That gives me maybe a week and a half in November and the month of January when there might be space.

So I can either use them to go elsewhere or rent them to someone who will "take them off my hands" for very little. Pretty much an equal deal and this way I can try out a new place and not have to pay cash for a trip I have to take.

I really like the Polo towers..but, I heard they have been removed from our "list" because the quality was not "up to par".

Beca, looks like you're right. Polo Towers is not on the DVC/II website. They did add Worldmark and Tahiti, but now there is no place on the strip:mad: The Carriage House would be the closest, probably 2 blocks off the strip. Tahiti is brand new, a mile or so off LV Blvd on Tropicana, probably close to the Orleans:confused3 Worldmark is south of MGV Cancun, a good 4 miles from the action.

Mikesmom, now you need to tell us where your trade show is, so we can find you a new place to stay;) Will you have a car, or use cab/bus/monorail?

The trade show is at Mandalay Bay. The question apparently is now moot. I called MS and they said the only thing available the week I have to go is Monarch Grand Vacation. It's apparently a ways farther down the Strip, which wouldn't bother me, because we'll rent a car. Now I have a decision to make. Apparently that week is considered mid season and would cost 144 points. That would mean I'd have to borrow some from next year - we don't have THAT many holding. I'm not sure I want to start the borrow thing for an offsite place.

DH says not to do it. He thinks we'll rent or travel before Feb 1st. I'm not really buying that story as both of us have commitments throughout January and I'm not sure where we'd fit a trip (though I'd love one). And of course he's not the one who will have to mess with a rental if it comes to that;)

We are thinking of using points to go to Vegas, we were planning on leaving from Ft. Lauderdale on a Wednesday night like 9PM our time and getting in to LV around midnight there.

That will give us Thursday to Saturday and we'll be home Sunday morning.

I wonder if we can book 3 nights on a exchange instead of having to book the whole week.

First a timeshare lesson. Red time frequently is not that high demand and not difficult to get. So don't assume that any trade that's listed as red is a good trade value using DVC, you'll be wrong far more often than not. From the info I have, it looks like xmas is the difficult time with Everything but summer being high season. I can't say much about the specific choices. If you can't use the points and they can't be banked, you may want to consider banking a week with II while you still can as you have only a week or so to bank without it being a restricted deposit. Then you can put in a request then and/or later. None of the LV resorts are rated all that highly on TUG.
