Need info on changing rental car rates with Avis???

I haven't played the rental car game in a while, so I am hoping you all can help me here. I checked about a week ago with Avis about an 8 day rental for a full size and it was $198, but I wasn't sure of our dates, so I did not book it yet. I checked back last night and it was $202 but it was so late after doing taxes, I went to bed and was going to book it tonight. Now it is $282!! How often do these rates change like this. Will it probably fluctuate or most likely just go on up like air fare does? By the way, I am using a code I got off of Mousesavers which seemed to be a really good one compared to the others I was trying.

Sorry, I didn't add my dates. We are going May 3 thru the 11th. Avis shows that as an 8 day rental. I used the Walmart code off of Mousesavers and came up with 134.75 plus 52.65 & 11.24 in fees making a total of 198.64 for a full size! I don't know why I didn't go ahead and book it with tentative dates at the time. I should have realized that was a good rate for a full size vehicle!
