Hi - I need information about Colonial Williamsburg/Jamestown. I looking to take my kids there next spring for a history lesson trip.

Where is a good place to stay that's kid friendly and not too expensive? Is there a time of year that's best to go there or not good to go there? Thanks!

We stayed at the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel & Suites. It was about 220/night but included 7 day tickets for all 5 of us to:

Colonial Williamsburg
Busch Gardens
Water Country USA
Jamestowne
Yorktowne

We could go to these as often as we wanted for the length of our trip(7 days). I'd call and ask about any specials run for your time frame. With the economy, I'll bet they will offer great deals.

The hotel is not fancy but we did have 1 bd with/king bed and the living room had a queen sleeper sofa. There's a mini kitchen with fridge and microwave. The onsite restaurant called Huzzah! has great food.

It was a short walk (+/-1 minute) to the visitor's center where you hop a bus to get where ever you need to go. It was a couple of minutes to Colonial Williamsburg park.

We loved the restaurants ,King's ArmsTavern on Duke of Gloucester Street and Christiana Campbell's Tavern on South Waller Street.

We rented a 3 bedroom time share condo with two families. I think it was called Kings Colony. We saved a lot of money by cooking several meals in the condo. We did two days at Busch Gardens and another day at the water park. We also did Jamestown and Williamsburg. On the 2nd Busch Gardens day, the guys took the kids to the amusement park and the ladies toured several local historic homes. The home tours were the highlight of the trip for me, personally. Some in our group also drove over to the airforce base in Norfolk. Our trip was in late June and it was super hot!!!

It was a great trip since we had a lot of variety in the types of activities we did so there was something for everyone.

I would look into renting a timeshare as Williamsburg is quite overbuilt with them.

The time not to go to Williamsburg is summer - it's just as hot and humid as Florida.

IMO Jamestown and Yorktown provide the most bang for your buck (especially for kids). Also don't forget the museums in the Hampton and Newport News Area.

Summer is definatly a very busy time here. B/n the historic sight and amusement parks it's very crowded and HOT!
Spring is a nice time. Weather is tricky. We have had snow (not much) as late a April but it's usually pretty nice and comfortable.
Look around some hotel around there do have indoor pools. And if you are driving there are a lot of other historic sights w/in 30 min of the "Historic Triangle" that are also good.
