First, a little backstory. We have taken 2 cruises with our kids thusfar and both were out of Port Canaveral, so we fly into Orlando. Our current cruise is out of Puerto Rico, so we were just going to tell them we were going there, but I booked a hotel that overlooks the port, so the morning of the cruise, they would look out the window and see the boat and then we would say, "Surprise!". Now, that the new itineraries are out, I am thinking we may change to one of the Eastern Caribbean cruises, also out of Port Canaveral.

Here is where my question comes in. How do we get them to Florida without telling them or them suspecting that we are going on another cruise? I don't want to tell them we are going to WDW or anything like that. Any ideas?

Could you say a family member has to go on a work conference and you're tagging along for some beach time?

Or say you want to take them to see Kennedy Space Center... make up some educational/historical reason, then do that... and the cruise.

This is exactly what we’re doing in June to our kids. Hoping to keep the secret until then.

We did a quick 3-day visit to WDW as a “quick getaway”, and as we we’re driving “home” afterwards, the kids did not notice that we were driving east instead of our usual north.

They had no clue until we stopped at our usual breakfast place in Cocoa Beach, and even then, they were not sure exactly what was going on until we spilled all the beans.

Hmmmm, that is an idea. We can tell them we are doing WDW and then do a couple days there before the cruise. Then on sail day, they will just think we are driving back to the airport until they see the boat!

We are doing a similar thing. Taking them to universal for first time since they just finished Harry Potter. And on the morning of sail day or the night before showing them the port.

It worked like a charm for us. Thankfully, no one was looking at the road signs on 528 taking us to Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach. They were looking at their phones or watching a DVD, and didn't even notice the ships as we passed that 401 spur where 528 turns into A1A.
