Our elementary PTO is doing a fall carnival at the end of October. I am the science teacher and been asked to do a "Mad Sceintist" booth.

I want it to be scary/creepy like a haunted house but with a science theme.

I'm going to be dressed with a white, wild hair wig and a lab coat. I know I need some story line for the tour. I'm thinking something like I"m missing a lab rat or I spilled something and the lab rat is changing... Any suggestions?

Also, I need things to put in the tour. The room is about 10 X 18. I was going to hang a sheet in the middle so they would walk down one side and come back down the other side, back to the door. I want to get a strobe light so we can see but not too well. I will also have some eerie sounds playing.

I was thinking about having some feeling bowls with things that "feel" like body parts. I think I have seen spaghetti for something and apricits for tongues. What could be used for eyes or brains?

Has anyone done anything like this before? Any suggestions on things to put in the "lab"? What could I put on the foor for a weird feel? Plus I need a great ending! Should something jump out or pop up, suggestions???

Yes, my mind is swimming but I keep coming up blank!

Roseanne had a Halloween special. I remember watching it last year thinking there were some great "doable" ideas. What they were, I can't remember. What about trying to watch some shows on tv for more ideas?

As for the eyeballs, grapes? Or if you have a bit of money to spend, they sell those fake eyeballs that are slimey. Our kids can get them as a prize with Accelerated Reader points earned. I think they bought them through Oriental Trading, not 100% sure though.

Yes, I'm actuallly doing a large halloween attraction and am constantly working on ideas for additional attractions. I have a HH script for an attraction that does have a lab. Now this may be different than what you want, but it may give you some ideas.

This lab was done by a scientist that experimented with nuclear radiation and stem cells, to try and make bodies come back to life (ala frankenstien). His lab had a nuclear reactor that has gone critical (people are getting lethal doses of radiation as they are walking through) so the story goes.

The effect for the nuclear reactor is a special effects disco laser light. You can get these on ebay for relatively cheap. Get the kind that is round and shoots out a bunch of lasers. Have a fog machine fog up the area so the lasers are very noticeable (note use lasers not the regular lights, they are very dim). You can place it behind a large fish tank filled with water, disguise the tank, with a bunch of cords and wires connected to it, the lasers will shoot through the water and fog, giving off a cool effect. Use sound effects like a loud kind of ringing/buzzing to give the effect of a nuclear reactor gone wrong. Use a heater on a motion sensor to come on when they walk by to shoot heat at them, (simulated radiation).

Other lab props can be found at local junk stores and even good wills and places like that. THey'll be a lot of old out of date electronic gadgets you can pick up for next to nothing that looks like lab equipment. Let me know if you need anything else. :thumbsup2

I was going to say peeled grapes for eyes.

Also see if you can find a copy of "Gross Grub" at the library or a used book store.....lots of interesting items to prepare like "slab o'scabs" that could be displayed. Of course you could do lots of little test tubes etc. displayed with different colors of water just by adding food coloring.

You have mentioned lab so now I have the Monster Mash playing in my head .

You can usually find the packages of misc. body parts, ears, nose, etc. this time of year pretty inexpensive.....maybe add those to some containers of liquid.

Hope you have a great time!!!!! It sounds like a lot of fun to me!!!!!!!!

I have done this when I was a roommom.:thumbsup2

I recommend getting cardboard boxes and cutting a hole in them so they can reach in and feel. That puts an extra element of scary, when you have to reach into an unknown box. :lmao:

I also did something called "Witches Brew" which was so easy. I made a game of it.

Well this was a while ago before digital cameras but I used old film canisters and hot glued them to a big foam board.

Then I put in different smells, things like cinnamon and called it witches perfume or something like that. I poked holes in the top of the film lid. You make up a creepy fun name. That makes it "spooky".

I had alot of canisters and I gave them a numbered list so they could guess.

Have fun planning!!! Kids love this.:goodvibes
