I am a big fan of books for goodie prizes, especially for this age (beginning readers). I'll try to match the book to the party theme, for example I gave the Little Golden book version of Peter Pan for DD's Peter Pan themed party and I gave "Good Night, Good Knight" for her castle themed party.
I figure parents often end up spending at least $3 or $4 on dollar store junk for goodie bags, so I'd rather give something that won't end up just cluttering the minivan floor mats.
I wrap the books in tissue paper, and the kids seem happy to have present to take out the door with them.
