Need ideas for girl scout nursing home visit

Bingo has already been mentioned, but I wanted to say it is a nice activity if you have younger kids visit a nursing home.

I took my first grade Daisy troop to a nursing home and we played Bingo - it was great that everyone could play and my girls took turns being the caller.

We also took prizes to give out. I had bought a variety of prizes thinking I was choosing some for young girls and some for the senior citizens. Well, an 80+ year old man chose as his prize a drinking cup that had glitter and little flowers and ducks floating in the walls. I bet no one had ever given him such a fun cup before, :lmao:

Hope your trip goes well!

This reminds me of one of my favorite male residents. My mom was in charge of nursing and went to freak out on me because his nails were painted, he quickly jumped into the conversation and firmly explained that it was his choice to have his nails painted ( we were only going to cut them) and when we had a bonnet contest for easter his won.

How about asking some of the residents if they want to teach the kids things? Instead of just asking about life in the olden days, make it more interactive and fun.

Maybe some could teach their favourite card games.

Or teach the kids how to dance the Charleston or Foxtrot or something fun - that'd let them play some music and get up and dance with the kids.

Or maybe some might have recipes to share - if you have any girls that like to cook or bake they could ask what some residents favourite or best recipes were.
