Need Ideas for "break time" During MK Day

We'll be a group of eight, which includes a five year-old and a 68 year-old. No doubt they'll need a break during a long day at Magic Kingdom (heck, we all will!) Is there a spot within MK where we can grab some quiet time, maybe even put up our feet?

I was considering maybe scooting over on the monorail to the Grand Floridian Cafe for an early dinner and some down time before heading back to MK. It would be one of our "splurge meals".

We're not staying too far outside of Disney so that's yet another option for a break, but it means getting to the car, etc. and I'd rather explore options close to the MK. What does everyone do when they need a rest during the day? All suggestions welcome!

How about taking the boat to WL or Fort Wilderness? both great places to relax, and the boat ride is refreshing

We're going to be having dinner at WL later in the week, after our second visit to MK. I didn't want to repeat that, so finding a quiet spot to rest within MK, or very close by, was my hope.

BTW,veering off track a bit, what are the general hours for lunch and dinner at resorts? Does lunch end at 5 and dinner start from then on?

Nope. Lunch ends around 2pm. I believe that a few hotels are open through the afternoon, but we were at GF in September and had to order room service on the beach at 230pm. Only thing open for lunch was quick service or afternoon tea.

Not that this is really that much of a break.. but.. when I went with the Cheerleaders, me and my girl friend got our fast passes to Pooh and somewhere near there is a spot with some tables and stools. We pulled up a couple and put our legs up and soaked in some sun while waiting for our time. And it's in Fantasyland, so you can just get your food and go sit there.

For a spot w/in MK, it depends what time of year. During low periods, there are lots of places to relax, but they do get busier/nosier during peak periods.

I don't stay in MK for more than a few hours, but my favourite nap places are the TTA and HM. Or Tom Sawyer Island - there are rocking chairs near Aunt Polly's (which is only open peak season). Or the porch areas in Frontierland and Liberty Square. Or the Liberty Belle if you can snag a seat.

What about a break at GF or CR? Granted, CR doesn't have much athmosphere, but the water is nice....

We just got back and on our MK day we took the monorail to the Polynesian and had lunch at Kona Cafe. It was wonderful food, and a relaxing break from the noise of the parks. Within the park, we love to ride the MK Railroad all around the park. It takes about 20 minutes, and it was very pleasant.

This might sound bad... but why don't you go to the Hall of Presidents? It's nice and air conditioned... great time to relax...

TrishMvhl, there's a small, dark, air-conditioned movie theater in the very back of Exposition Hall at the end of Main Street nearest the park entrance. Last time I checked, there were around 40 seats, all padded and comfortable.

Because of its location, you'll rarely find more than a handful of people there at any given time. My suggestion would be to pick up a snack and a drink from the Main Street Bakery, and take your break in the movie theater.

The only downside is that the theater usually plays the same three films over and over ("Flowers and Trees," "The Band Leader," and .... I forget the third one). But if you're tired, that shouldn't matter.

We found this on one of our past visits. We overlooked it in the past cause it's near the entrance and we were either rushing to get in or leaving.

Town Square Exposition Hall
As you pass under the Main Street Walt Disney World Railroad station, you'll find the "Exposition Hall" on your right. Hosted by Kodak, this Camera Center is a terrific spot to get any camera supplies that you may need. This also is where you go to pick up photos that you've had taken by Disney photographers in the park.

What many guests overlook is what lies behind the main shop. There are wonderful character cutouts that you're welcome to use to take some pix, and there are some interactive kiosks. Don't be surprised if you find a Dwarf or two....or seven. They sometimes can be found here for some memorable pictures and fun.

For those of us who remember Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, one of the cars from this attraction is tucked into the back corner. You can reminisce and pose for a photo if you'd like.

Great place to sit and relax, quiet, never anyone there. If you walk all the way through you will find a mini cinema playing old cartoons. Great place to unwind and get off your feet. And great photo opportunities with movie scene cutouts. You can then hop aboard the train after you have rested.

On the visits we dont stay @ WDW...we always rest in the lobby @ the GF.

The cushie chairs and sofa's are just great...the piano player is soothing...and you can get a drink( if you wish) from the waiter.

I used to nap on the train. A few years ago I took an evening nap, and was shaken by an older conductor, who said that he realized that I was napping, but after 3 trips around the park he wanted to see if I was ok!!! Of course, at DL the train is not as crowded, and the seats go sideways, with a little rail for your feet. Much more relaxing!

I'm also one of those people who ask the TTA attendant 'may I stay on and ride again?' If it's not busy, they let you ride around and around - they have told me that many people use the TTA to nap.

As stated above, you could take a boat ride over to Ft. Wilderness. Lunch could be at Trails End and then a rest on the porch. It is lined with rocking chairs. The petting zoo is also close so the 5 year old could enjoy that along with a small playground across from the porch. Settlement trading post is in that area also. Then again, a bus tour of the campground is nice also .

How about taking the raft over to Tom Sawyer Island and resting in some of the rocking chairs ove there?

Thanks - some good ideas! I'l definitely remember the Town Square Exposition Hall. Sounds like a little-known haven.

I was worried that if we went over to the GF we might not find a seating area where we could relax for awhile (don't want to be accused of loitering!) Even if we don't have a meal there it sounds like a nice place to have some quiet time, grab a drink, etc.

Personally I love the idea of going over to the Kona Cafe for lunch but I know the menu won't appeal to my meat-n-potatoes Irish parents. I'll just have to come back to Disney another time to eat there
