Need ideas for a retiring catholic school principal

Our school is getting very creative with this , they are giving her a modest charm bracelet( she is a nun), any way each grade k-8 is voting on a charm to give her for the bracelet.Because its a school gift we are chipping in 10 a child.

What an awesome idea!...I wish I had more time!!!

Our school "closed" last year and re-opened as a consolidated school from four local Catholic schools. Our principal (nun) retired. We gave her large check so that she could do some travelling.

I think a gift certificate is a great idea. Ask around to see where she likes to eat, visit. I think a simple dinner in her honor with a slide show would be a nice rememberance. Also not sure on your timing but if you could get a hold of any former students and have them send cards or come to the party to say hi that would be fun for her/him.

Thanks for all the suggestions! The party is already in the works...tonight  ! I just don't want to go empty handed!

:teeth: Cash always works.

Most Catholic principals have given years to schools without being paid much. I would give cash and tell him/her to put it toward a nice family vacation or something.

I spent a lot of time with my kids' principal, and people were always giving him some sort of little placque or apple or something like that--he had a thousand of them and never had a place to put them. At the same time, he was sorely lacking in decent casual shirts...and he and his family rarely went out to eat at a nice restaurant.

I always told him that if he could change all those little $5-$10 placques and plastic/metal items into cash, he could take his wife on a great trip! :teeth:

If I read this right she is a Nun? If so I wouldn't give cash, I'd give her something she has to use on herself or with fellow nuns like a gift certificate to a restaurant or salon or even bakery, or day trip. Often if given cash they feel they should donate it to the church or charity if you give her something personal they don't feel as guilty using it. I'm just going on the ones I used to work with so I may be wrong to generalize.

I don't know many nuns, but all the priests I know love cash. If this person has been living on a low salary, I think cash is a great gift.

I was told by a priest in grammar school (catholic school) that any money they received must be given to the convent. Not sure if that is still the case or even true.

My dad's Fire Cheif retired this past month and they gave him a Land and Sea package.
