My son will be participating in a national chess tournament in Dec and we are staying the weekend at CSR. We will not be going to the parks as these will be many long hours of chess. I am wondering if I can purchase the DDP without buying tix?
We would like to have some nice meals and would use it all up on food at different resorts.

You must buy at least one day to get the dinning plan. That's all that that's required.

If you are not going into the Parks it wouldn't be worth getting the DDP, most of the best TC places are in EPCOT, unless you take the bus over to Polly and try Kona or Ohana and there is Captain Jacks in DTD, or try the Hoop De Doo that takes 2 TS. Humm maybe it would be worth the DDP but though a 1 day park pass is pretty pricy like $70 each and you each need one to get the DDP and the price per day only drops if you get multiple days park passes.

I have reservations for WCC (may change to Ohanas) and Boma. We live in Fl and had APs for years, so no park time this trip.
Too bad I can't pay for the DDP :(

I think you can pay for the DDP with AP now. You won't have to purchase a ticket, only when it's free dining if you have the AP that you have to purchase at least a 1 day pass which you don't have to use and could use towards your renewal. That's only with free dining.. I'm pretty sure this is correct.

If you book a room at an AP rate, you can purchase the dining plan without buying a park ticket. This is new for 2008.. You would have to wait until the AP rates come out for December, to see if it works for you.

Any idea when the AP rates will be out? We have a rate of $120 for CSR, but if the AP rate is better and I could get the DDP... hmmmm

Come on, if you're taking the kids to Disney and you have APs, duck in a park for a couple of hours. :rotfl:

Don't I wish! These Chess tournies are brutal! You are talking 8-9 hours of chess a day. With me sitting in a chair reading a book! Well maybe my son won't miss me if I go!

IF you are a Florida Res. and have the AP can't you get the DDE card that give you 20% off meals at most restaurants.

You can get the DDE card as a FL resident without the AP for $85. If you have an AP from anyplace you pay $60. We just did this in May and it is good through June 2009, about 13 1/2 months.

yes, but for the two table service meals and the few counter service meals, it wouldn't pay for itself by the time the APs expire. We may not renew our APs.

I guess not. The breakeven point is spending a face value of $300. If you were renewing or the passes were good longer it might be.
