We're having a yard sale tomorrow, and I have a couple of items that I have NO idea what to ask for. We have two old computer monitors, they work, but they're at least 5-6 years old. I also have a used clarinet that's about 10-12 years old. Needs cleaning, but in good shape. Does anyone know what these things usually go for at yard sales? Thanks in advance!

Oh! We had a garage sale a few weeks ago and had two old monitors, about 5 years old. We priced them at $10 and $5 (one was a bit older than the other). No bites...we (in desperation) reduced them down to a buck each because we didn't want to haul them home. Still no takers. Finally at the end of the day we said they were free...still no takers!! We ended up loading them up and giving them to the Goodwill. I hope you have more luck than we did!

Ditto. we tried selling two 15" HP monitors (about 4-5 years old)for $5 each and I ended up freecycling them.
As for the clarinet I have no idea sorry

Darn, I was worried that would be the story with the monitors. It's hard to sell the big clunky old version when everyone has thinner streamlined ones now! Thanks for the info!

The computer monitors aren't going to be money makers but the clarinet could fetch you a bit. Are there any antique shops near you? They usually have a market for used instruments and will probably buy it from you. If it's in good shape, all complete, and with it's case, I would ask $50 for it (start with $75 and they will probably counter with the $50). Used clarinets retail for about $80 to $100 and sometimes more. If you have it at the sale, don't let it go for less than $40.

We put a FREE sticker on ours, we had several (monitors). It was even hard to get rid of them that way!!!

No problem. Sorry to disappoint you - we were a bit crestfallen ourselves. It's amazing that I can sell a $15 game for $4, but can't even GIVE AWAY something that was originally hundreds of dollars! Ah, such is technology...

Good Luck on your Yard sale.... OUR whole Town is having a sale tomorrow. We have a yearly Town Wide Garage Sale... I have 2-scanners and 2-color printers to sell and now I may think twice about dragging them out, if noone will buy them.. :confused3

I'd just mark the monitors with a tag that says "make offer". Sometimes you will get more than you expect when you do that, sometimes less. But I have found it can make an item more interesting to some bargain hunters. Some people do buy that stuff. I am living proof, I have a whole closet full of spare computer parts. :rotfl: The monitor I am currently using is a garage sale purchase.

I don't think you will sell the monitors put $5 bucks on them and give them away if you have too. Around here I don't think you would get more than $25 buck for the instrument. I know its worth much more but they want a deal at a yard sale. Friend had $60 habitrail for hamster $15 marked on it and best she could do was $10 bucks. It was barely used. I couldn't sell a 19 in older color tv that works fine for $15 bucks. Oh what is going on.
