Need help with Standard AKL rooms

I know that the standard rooms will most likely be parking lot view,but I'd love to hear from anyone with any help on what rooms to ask for or what ones to advoid.I also know that you request certain rooms (or floor,or areas,etc) and it doesn't mean you'll get it,but,since we've never even been to the AKL (much less stay there),we could use any help from people who have stayed there (in standard room,or any room just in case of a upgrade,don't really see us getting one,but you never know).I know that I saw some reports about rooms being over where the trash truck picks up early in the mornings,etc. but like always,I can not find these threads now.Do any of the standard rooms have bal.?Also we will need 2 rooms and would like something close to bus stop,or main building.Any help would be great.Also,tell me about their pools,shops,places to eat (any 24 hour places to get food?What is there to do for our 3 year old?We will be moving to AKL from the Contemporary towers after 4 nights to stay 3 extra days at AKL.Sell me on this resort,I know some don't like it unless you get sav. view,etc,but 2 rooms at standard with AAA discount is about as much as we can go.With the Cont.stay will will have the free meal package,but AKL will be room only.Sorry,so long,but,I know very little about this resort and really need all the help I can get.Thanks.

Ask for a higher floor. The ground floor standard rooms do not seem appealing. All the rooms have balconies or patios.

My opinion we had the best room at AKL (if you aren't looking for a Savannah view). Our room was 1456. Its in the Zebra trail first floor (we never used our patio, though it was railed in). When leaving our room you turned left walked about 10-15 feet and turn left again. The doors ahead lead you to Mara's, the video arcade, and the pool. We were so close to everything. Ok well not everything but the walk to the busses was about 5 mins if that. Being so close to the pool was the best. I had to run back to the room several times because DD11 or I always seemed to forget something(book, goggles, sunblock) and being so close was the best.

If looking at the map our room was just above the wading pool(well by looking at the map). We had also booked a standard room so I guess this was an upgrade to pool view.

Our first night at AKL in May, we had a standard view room on the 5th floor. Avoid this if at all possible. Our balcony had a solid wall-like railing and the thatch roof hangs down looowww. Thus, our room was incredibly dark. Even though we were fairly high, we could hear all of the cars coming and going below. Ugh! When we moved to our savanna view room the next day, we had the exact same room layout -- but the more open railing. As a result, our room was much brighter and more cheerful.
