:scared1:

So my daughter got a part in her school play they are doing Oklahoma. She's so excited she's in 4th grade, and she has a few solo lines, and a very small singing solo.

Now the bad news  We need to come up with costume. The description is a "Holly-Hobby Style dress" ans the teacher also mentioned a "Gunny-Sax" style prom dress from late 70's, early 80's.

All I can say is help :scared: . I can not sew, and have no idea where to even begin looking. Any suggestions????

Did you look on ebay or a second hand store. Mabey the salvation army might have something.

That's what I was going to suggest. Or find somebody that sews and bribe them really well! :teeth:

I tried Ebay...either they don't have or I don't know how to look in Ebay. Haven't made it to second hand store yet, but am heading there shortly!

Thanks for your suggestions :goodvibes

Look in Ebay under Praire or pioneer. You should find lots of things. I look quite a bit because my school does a Pioneer day every year whereeveryone dresses up and my dd will go to this school next year so I am always looking for a good deal. If you do not find anything I will try to post links later.

you might be able to rent something from a costume supply shop fairly cheaply, they sometimes give cheaper rates for extended rentals for this purpose. Also, Gunne Sax is the correct spelling, try searching ebay for vintage gunne sax or vintage jessica mcclintock. I see lots of good auctions pretty cheap on ebay with skirts and dresses both.

Thank you so much.....at least I know what I am looking for now! :sunny:

Try Goodwill or something similar. Chances are you can find an old prom dress that would work (Gunne Sak type). Ask around to anyone that is about 40-45 and they might have an old prom dress laying around the house, too. Gunne Sak dresses were really popular in the early 80's for prom.
