Hey!,
I'm going to DisneyWorld in August with the goal of proposing to my girlfriend . This is my first time at Disney so I am a bit lost as to what to do. My main concern is that I would like the proposal to be private. So what are some beautiful private areas where I could propose?

I was thinking of having supper at Narcoossee's then walking along the beach to the polynesian resort to watch the Wishes Fireworks. I would propose during or after the fireworks. What do you guys think?

Also, does anyone have any other suggestions or proposal stories they would like to share?

Thank you very much! :wizard:

First Congratulations

Second, that sounds like a wonderful idea. How about stopping in the area of the wedding chapel to pop the question?

The Polynesian beaches won't exactly be sparse with people at fireworks time but I do agree it can be a lovely part of such an evening. How about a stroll around the torchlit grounds afterwards while the crowds clear out some? I think the Polynesian has the most romantic setting of any resort in the World (particularly after the kids get tucked into bed). Then, the beach on the TTC side of Sunset Point should be pretty empty.

Good question! I should consider this further and come up with a list of quiet, peaceful settings for this and similar purposes.

Good for you!

Why not propose on the Tower of Terror? Either way she's going to scream!

Juuust kidding.

You could do the whole Lady and the Tramp thing - Take her to Tony's Town Square and put a ring in her meatball!

Or not. She might eat it.

Okay okay serious here:

The beach sounds perfect.

There is also the Wilderness Trek at Animal Kingdom. Apparently the end of the tour is quite breathtaking. And the tours are small.

Awww  The beach idea is perfect, you should always go with your own first instinct...though the PP is right, the beach isn't always very secluded during Wishes, but I'll bet you can find a quiet-ish spot. I just got chills thinking about it though :) Good luck!

if you are staying on site you can visit MK during EMH and there are a couple of quiet spots at the castle at midnight - would be special.

Thanks for the advice :-) I was thinking about MK during EMH because one of the nights that we are at WDW, MK is open until 1:00AM. I imagine by that time the park must be pretty quiet?

I also like the idea of taking a walk around the polynesian after Wishes.

Congratulations!!! I like the idea of a proposal under the fireworks!! You could strategically sit in the top row so no one behind you is watching and being lookey-loos!! That's a nice private prospect considering doing it at the fireworks. Also, we watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Contemeporary Resorts observation deck. The old Contemporary that is, not the new one. There is an observation deck that faces the Castle and you can see the fireworks from there just fine. There are a few benches and are usually full if you aren't there REALLY early, but there is plenty of room behind them in the corner of the deck where you could bring a blanket and get a drink from the bar to watch the fireworks and then POP the BIG question!!!

I also like the other poster's idea of visitng the wedding chapel and then spring it there!! Or even, just a quiet evening stroll along the water's edge somewhere is nice. A picnic with a blanket, a bottle of wine, some sandwiches on the grass somewhere on the resort where you are staying it romantic!!

No matter what you do it will be spectacular.

My husband proposed to me at a ZZ Top concert and it was spectacular. It meant so much he wanted to be with ME forever!!! The concert was a perk!

Haha, I will come back and let all you guys know how it all went but there is still a few months till then.

Can anyone else recommend gorgeous places to propose?

Congratulations! How exciting. Maybe you can call guest services and maybe you guys can come up with something amazing that may involve a character or 2. What resort are you staying at? Maybe you can get help with fixing up your room and doing it there!

We are staying at POP Century so I think it would need a lot of fixing up for it to be romantic. Haha!

I'm hesitant about asking for help from guest service. I'm worried about them having a problem because we are a same sex couple. Can anyone comment on how helpful the cast members can be in this situation?

I think this would be a great idea MK during EMH, at the castle.

For me personally I think the wishing well is the most romantic spot at the castle.

Trust me, cast members are more than happy to make magic for guests, same sex couple or not. :)

As for Pop Century, definitely check out the Disney Florist website. It can give you a lot of really cool ideas, and the cast members at the resort can help you arrange things. If you decide to go with anything in the room, my personal recommendation is to propose elsewhere, and then when you get back to the room, there will be a nice romantic treat waiting for the two of you.

For locations around property, if you can catch Animal Kingdom when it's open late, it's absolutely beautiful once the sun goes down. It's very quiet compared to the rest of the parks, and it gives you that sense of just the two of you being out in the wilderness together. The Poly is a gorgeous spot as well. Sometimes the showkeeping team leaves the gate to the Wedding Pavilion open while they're cleaning, and you can actually walk back to the archway at night. That's where I asked my girlfriend out  If you want a cliche Disney approach, you can actually dine at CRT inside Cinderella's Castle and have them present her with the engagement ring in an engraved glass slipper. For something a little more on the adventurous side, get in touch with Coral Reef at Epcot if the two of you enjoy seafood. You can arrange to have personalized menus and a diver that can hold up a sign with your proposal. The amazing thing about Disney is that there really are no limits. You can propose in front of a castle, in France, on the way to Mars, climbing Everest, or jamming out to Aerosmith. It's all up to you and your personalities. :)

Thanks for the great advice. I think I'm still leaning towards Narcoossee's then POL for fireworks then MK for EMH. Not sure at what point I would propose during the night. I would imagine that MK at night must be quite special?

But now I'm thinking that AK would also be a nice spot since her all-time favorite movie is Lion King.

Good thing I still have 6 months left before our trip because I can't make up my mind!!!

So I have ADR at Narcoossee's at 7:45pm. Would that give us enough time for our meal and then to slowly make our way to the Polynesian to watch the fireworks at 10:00pm? I would rather not have to rush.

My dh gave me my engagement ring in front of Cinderella's Wishing Well (on the path between the castle and Tomorrowland, next to the water).

He knew I didn't want it to be too "public" and that he HAD to give me my ring at the Magic Kingdom since I love that park so much.

I found out later that he had NO plan or idea of where or how he was going to give me the ring other than at WDW. We stopped at DTD and MGM that day and ended up at the TTC in the early afternoon. We opted to take the boat across to MK and while waiting on the dock I got all teary eyed at seeing the castle again. At that moment he knew that he had to give me the ring at MK.

SO... we walked through Main Street and got detoured around by something or other and ended up on the path between Tomorrowland and the Castle. Dh paused at Belle's storytelling garden, turned to me and told me he wanted to sit down because he was tired (he figured it would be a good spot since it was deserted). I looked around and thought we wouldn't be allowed to hang out there because of the storytelling schedule. I was kind of puzzled as to why dh would be tired since we had JUST gotten to the MK, but I didn't say anything.

We continued on down the path and came to the wishing well. I suggested to dh that we could sit on the bench there...then spent some time complaining that it should be Snow White's well, not Cindy's while dh scoped out the area...again no people so he agreed.

Dh then asked me if I wanted to make a wish... he gave me a penny and I made my wish...then continued complaining about how little water there was in the well and how they could have put more in to make it more authentic. Meanwhile, dh is pulling the ring box out of his fanny pack (which he purchased that morning at DTD freaking out that he had nowhere to carry the box around w/o me seeing the box in his pocket).

I turned around and there dh was on his knee w/ my ring.

He said, "Is this what you wished for?"

He's such an awesome guy! He married me anyway ...even after all the complaining and everything I did to thwart his plans. We've been married for 10yrs now and have two kids. Every time we go back to WDW we get our picture taken at the well together with the kids!!

Here is a photo of me and the kids during our last trip in June. Dh had to leave a day earlier than the rest of us to get back to work so we emailed this to him while he was waiting for his flight!

I'm the kind of person that really doesn't like to be the center of attention so I was thrilled that dh didn't opt for CRT, CG, ...or on the steps of the castle. I probably could have dealt w/ the rose garden..but not during the fireworks...too many people around!
