My family is going to Disneyland at the end of Sept. and we are meeting up with my sister and her family. Due to my sister's work schedule, she now wants to change the dates so that we are there from 9/19 to 9/24. I looked at the Anaheim convention calendar and there is an ASIS/security convention there that has the whole facility booked from 9/21 to 9/24. Does anyone have any info on this convention with respect to how it inpacts crowds at the parks? Thanks so much!

I had a simmaler question and this was the answer I got

As far as the hotels being booked, there are a few reasons for that. The DLH is starting its refurb the end of Aug. That will take down about 1/6 of the hotel according to LA Times. Sept. is convention season. As far as your dates (16th-23rd), there are probably going to be some families left over from the homeschool convention (14th-17th) at the GCH, and there is some convention at the DLH that week as well according to the convention sales office. Starting Sept. 21 is a security convention that has booked the entire convention center. I think that these are the reasons that hotels are full (in some cases). Not all of them are full the entire time that you are there. You may have run into issues with your dates due to overlapping with the security convention. Will this fill the parks? Unknown. I think that there will be lots of kids (mine included) in the parks during the homeschool convention dates. I don't know if most families are staying the entire week or not. As far as the weekend through the end of your trip, it depends on how many security convention attendees bring their spouses and kids. When we went in Sept. 2007, there appeared to be lots of convention people at DLH, but it didn't seem to affect the parks. There also is the 5 for 3 special going until the end of Sept. that may also boost the numbers there. We will just have to wait and see.

That convention will not likely affect DL at all as the attendees are more toward mostly male and probably a lot of them single (Disneyland is not likely high on their list of things to do while in town). The ones who have families, would not be likely to pull kids out of school since it only just started. It should mainly just affect hotels and restaurants. Trying to get a table at Ruth's Chris will probably be tricky.

That week should be pretty darned nice, it usually is. Kids are just back in school locally and through most of the country, and people are less likely to pull kids out in the first month of school.

If you have some insider information on this group, then clearly your info is more reliable, but if not, I am not sure I agree with this logic.

First, i think to say that most of the attendees are single males is a giant assumption.

Second, I think believing that single males do not have much interest in visiting DL is another false assumption

Lastly, I have to disagree with the thought that those who have family will probably not be bringing them. Depending upon where "home" is, the opportunity to visit CA is one that a convention is just the excuse to justify it.

OP, I don't think you should worry about changing travel because of a convention in town - there will always be something that you can wonder about it affecting DLR, but I think you will see some convention-goers (and their families) at DL that week.
