I remember reading a few weeks ago on this board (and now can't find it), about how to set buying options for kids on iTunes. I need help with this as I can't find that post. I plan on giving my DD my 1st generation iPod Touch for Christmas and want her to be able to purchase things thru the Touch, but want to set up the 'kid' account so no overspending occurs. Thanks!

I would love to hear about this as well as my sister just bought her kids the latest generation.

Ok, I found what I was looking for, I think.

Go to your account info.
Click on 'edit payment information'
Click on 'to redeem code, click here'
Click on 'allowances'

But with this feature it looks like a specified amount is charged to
the account monthly. I just want to load $$ into it on occasion, is
there anyway to do that?

I don't have access from where I am, but my daughter's itunes account does not have a credit card on file - it has a gift card so when it's gone, it's gone.

I am giving my daughter my old iPod Touch for Christmas. It's already on my account, and loaded with apps and songs I have purchased through iTunes, as well as my own music that's been ripped. I was going to leave it under my account so we only have to buy something once, but I also like the idea of being able to give her a gift card without a credit card attached (which my account does have). Is there any way to do this? I'm thinking we either have to totally share or totally not share, but I've never really thought about this before.

Thanks!

ahh...I'm not sure about transfering an ipod itself.

As far as sharing, we use Protected Music Converter (protectedmusicconverter.com) to convert all of our iTunes music to mp3s so each of us can have it an only one person buy it. I think it was like $20 but over the years it has more than paid for itself in iTunes savings.

We also use separate computers to sync each of ours.

I don't have a credit card linked to mine, I just buy iTunes cards, when they run out, I stop buying or reload, and there is no excuse that I have such and such limit b/c it is a CC. I don't like the idea of my CC being linked anyway.

Is there a setting to set to ensure the kids are only looking at kid friendly apps and what not?

Yes, I just found it. When in iTunes, do the following:
Click the 'Edit' button on the top left of the screen.
Click on 'Preferences'
Click on 'Parental Control'
this is where you can set the parameters you want.

HTH!

That's great to know. THanks!

Thanks so much!! I posted this question on the community board as well and got this answer too. I watched the video and it was really helpful.

On the home screen press settings, then select "General", then scroll down to Restrictions. Select enable and you will be prompted to put in a security code. Then after that you can select what apps you want to restrict
