Ok- not really budget board material but we have a bunch of smart people here... my child's class read "Catcher In The Rye". Now they have to do a report on individuality without rebelling. But the kicker is- it has to be a video.

Being a good Disney fan, my child immediately thought of Mulan and how she stepped in to fight in place of her father. Not sure how to do a short video. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Pull out the old classic :) BreakFast Club! The new one that is similar is Lemonade Mouth.

How about Meet the Robinsons? That's all about embracing individuality.

They have to watch some video and do a report on the video, or their report on Catcher in the Rye with theme of individuality has to be in the form of a video that they make?

If they have to make a video, my kids have written their own movies in the past and used our video camera to record them. They used stuffed animals, Barbies, Lego guys, matchbox cars, etc. and did it in the form of stop motion video. Here's an example from YouTube of what I mean (it's not ours) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKlXi3lFrZk

Are you asking how to create a video and then put it on a DVD? Shouldn't the school have a way to help the student with video production if they're going to require producing a video as part of an assignment?

There's a lot of good video editing software out there but your video camera should have come with some complimentary software that may not be the easiest to work with but it should suffice for a high school lit class assignment. Or you could go out and purchase some editing software if you want to have a more polished final cut. I use Pinnacle for my videos and it's relatively easy to work with. However, the teacher is more interested in content than in the technique, so spending $$ for editing software isn't a good idea unless you expect to do a lot of it in the future.

But if you're asking for suggestions on what should be in the video, you're on your own. Actually, your kid is on her own. It's her homework.

Can your child work with friends?

Child can simply in their own words do Mulan or Meet the Robinsons and record it on a phone, camera(some have video options), or video camera. Download it to the computer and copy it to a disk. Just make sure to give credit for the idea to Disney, ie based on.....

Like the PP said stuffed animals, legos, or even drawing pictures if so capable.

Thanks for all the ideas. My kid came home and had already thought of the Breakfast Club idea this afternoon at school. The kids all worked with the video equipment editing software from the library at school to get going on each of their 4 minute videos.. I personally liked the Meet The Robinsons suggestion but it's not my project. Thanks- I knew we had lots of smart people on board.

School ties is a really good one. It is about a Jewish football player who hides his Jewish identity to fit in. Plus it has my celebrity crush::yes::, Matt Damon in it. And Brendan Fraser.
