Originally posted this on transportation board, but now think this isa better place to ask this...We are hoping to travel to France this summer late July/early August. I am looking for the best rates for flights, most likely from Boston to Paris. The tentative plan is to stay in Paris for a few days and then travel by train down near Avignon to stay with friends for the remainder of our trip. to get home I am thinking of taking the train back to Paris, perhaps stay one night and then fly back to Boston. This seems less expensive than flying directly from the south of france back home.

What I am looking for is any advice on how to find the best flight prices, suggestions on traveling, even where to stay in france, etc..., but for now flight prices are most important. I will be traveling with my dh and 2 dds 10 & 12.
It seems my friend who lives in France found good prices on one airline, but when I looked it up it was much higher. I don't understand. Can she book for me under my name?

I know this is a lot. Any help is greatly appreciated. And it's not really Disney related this time, unless we visit Euro Disney in Paris.
thanks ahead.

She can book in your name and pay with your card. it's possible that the deal she found is gone or you should have been able to find it. Maybe her fare is for originating in France and flying roundtrip to the U.S.A. Sometimes, the fares are not the same originating here. Anyway, look at 'add on' fares to Nice or Lyon for flights back through Paris. It's a long way into the city from either Paris airport so you might want to get there late and just stay at the airport in a hotel to minimize the hassle. Myself, I'd spend a few days on either end in Paris but it's one of my favorite places.

We rented An apartment in Paris when we went in 2004. It. Was much cheaper than a hotel and could accomodate our family of four. We rented for 6 nights. I researched vacation rentals but do not recall whom I settled on. We were "down the street" from Notre Dame on the Latin Quarter side, but I don't recall our exact location. I really enjoyed staying near a residential area. Plus our kitchen helped us save money on food.

We took the train from London, so I can't helP with airfare except to suggest signing up with all the airlines for emails about sales. We did London for part of our trip because we found airfare for less than $300pp.

Try the tripadvisor forum, they have a very active France and Paris thread going 24/7 with lots of very experienced travelers.

Hope you have a wonderful trip, France is a wonderful place to visit.
