Long story short: this was my sister in her 2nd grade halloween costume. She now works as a law enforcement officer at Gettysburg. My mom would like to get a print made for my sister's desk of this picture - without the powder-horn. Is there a way to edit it out?

Yes. It can be edited out. A lot of how well it will look depends on the original image or scan and the skill level of the person who does it. In the right hands you won't even be able to tell it was there.

I agree that it should not be a problem with the full size image in the right hands (i.e. not me :lmao:) What I have to ask is why?

I also agree it can be done on a nice, large scan so there's a large enough field of detail to work with - a clone tool used carefully should make it disappear.

I also have to admit to being a little curious why the powder horn is not wanted in the shot...not that it's any of my business!

That's what I said! It's not historically correct, but who cares it was a kid's halloween costume! Maybe she wants to make my sister look a little less dorky. :confused3

I would love to see what content aware fill could do with this. Anyone using CS5 yet?

Content aware fill does not work well on that. It doesn't work well on everything like the preview video seemed to imply.

I removed the powder horn from the soldier and removed the "not historically accurate" concrete sidewalk.
