Chad? Someone?

So I'm going to see Green Day in Dallas in August. It's at the American Airlines Arena (or something like that). Is this in a good area of town? Are there any hotels within walking distance? Is it safe to walk to the hotel at night? How far is the airport?

TIA

The arena's at the edge of downtown Dallas- not really a good area, but not our worst.

It's not really an area where you can walk to a hotel. Dallas isn't much of a "walking" city...

It's maybe 20 minutes from the airport, if you're not hitting a heavy traffic time. Double that if it's at a heavy drive time.

I believe it is near downtown Dallas. I don't think there are hotels within walking distance, but there should be plenty a short cab ride away. There is plenty to do in that area: Dealey Plaza, the West End. Lots of restaurants & clubs. Dallas has the D.A.R.T. system, there may be a stop there.

The airport, if you are referring to DFW is about 20 miles away. Love Field is closer, but is only served by Southwest.

I can recommend a kickin hotel there - The Magnolia! They have free shuttles at the hotel that took us to the West End, but I bet you can call and they'd drop you off at the Arena as it's SO CLOSE to the West End. The Magnolia was stunningly gorgeous, affordable, and we had a full kitchen, living area, bedroom. They are in a restored warehouse, and it's right next door to the original Neiman Marcus! Not only that, but they have a breakfast buffet that's really good, cookies and milk at night, and an evening drink/cheese/snack buffet during happy hour.

We did walk home from the West End one night and it was a nice evening, we felt safe. You can also walk to Farmers Market from there, and a handful of other restaurants.

We are from Mesquite (Dallas) but aren't living there now and went up to celebrate our anniversary and see John Groban at Fair Park and stayed the weekend there - was great!

yjere is a dart (rail) stop at the center. depending on where your hotel is you might have to make a transfer. there are some good hotels on the rail, the adams mark, westin, hyatt regency are all upscale. there are also some moderates like hampton inn near the rail as well. haven't been to the magnolia, so i don't anything about it. the west end is where the restaurants are downtown, and it is near the center. you could walk from there. but there isn't a whole lot around the AAC yet, although a hotel is going up now.

Not much else I can add to this, other than I'd keep my doors locked traveling to the place. ;) I'v enever seen Green Day in person, but I bet they are going to be great :teeth:

I think you definitely need a Dallas companion to show you around, attend the concert with you, and that it should be me! :rotfl:

I would love to see Green Day!!!! Have fun. I pretty much agree with what everyone on here has said except that some people around here would refuse to ride DART at night.

Sorry.. No help but green day rocks!

You can walk to American Airlines Center from the Hotel Crescent Court. The family I nanny for has a loft across the street from the Crescent. But if you can take a cab or something it would be better. Walking over wouldn't be a big deal, but coming back might be scary. The arena isn't in a HORRIBLE part of town, but downtown Dallas isn't fabulous at night. You wouldn't be walking past anything that would be open - the area around the arena isn't all that developed. There are some office buildings and some residential lofts, but not really anything else. Mostly parking lots.

The Stoneleigh Hotel is pretty close, too, but not walking distance. There is a little boutique hotel called Hotel St. Germain, or the super ritzy Hotel Zaza, but it would be a trek to walk from those, too.

Be warned that we have a pretty significant problem with homeless people. Most of the ones I have encountered have been harmless, but some can be aggressive. I volunteer with a 5K charity event downtown and City Hall has THRONGS of homeless people milling around. I have seen a few that made me nervous, but I wasn't down there by myself! (City Hall isn't that close to the arena, just want you to know that downtown isn't a good place to wander alone after dark.)

Have fun!

Thanks for the info! I plan to fly into Love Field on Rapid Rewards tickets (Southwest) and may stay at a Hilton since I probably have enough honors points for that too.

OK I've taken you up on your hotel suggestion and booked at the Magnolia. It's much closer to the American Airlines Center than the Hilton. So what is there to do close by for a few hours? What is West End and the Market? Would either be appropriate and fun for a 17yo?

Ohh, a bunch of places to eat and walk around! I go down to the West End every so often with someone. The guys that sell roses down there are a pain in the *** though :rotfl2: I'm trying to think of some specifics of it down there, but I can't :confused3 :rotfl: I love eating at Spaghetti Warehouse :teeth:

AAAcckk...I am having a senior moment. What is the name of the restaruant in Dallas that is shaped like a prymaid??

there is a dick's last resort in the west end, as well as the usual suspects, there is also the dallas aquarium, which houses several exotic birds mammals and fish. i also like to eat at the spaghetti warehouse. there used to a lot of entertainment going on down there, scheduled and impromptu, and some shops in the west end marketplace and an arcade.

from nearby the hotel you could take the mckinney ave trolley to the hard rock on mckinney, ask the concierge for directions to the trolley.

You can stay with us:) We should have a dis meet. Have a great time.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I read this 3 times, and kept thinking, surely they haven't sold the naming rights to Texas Stadium. Then I read down and realized its Green Day, not Green Bay. This has nothing at all to do with football does it???

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ok our Dallas trip is coming up next weekend! DD wants to go to the Hard Rock Cafe. Is it in the West End? So is it going to be hot? :sunny:

BoyLovesBuzz - :rotfl: Yes that's GREEN DAY, not GREEN BAY! :rotfl: To my knowledge, Green Day (a band) is not affiliated with the NFL, nor have the Packers relocated to Dallas.

Yes - Hard Rock is in the West End (but hard to find). Get good directions from your hotel.

So is West End a general area of town or a mall? Are there shops around also?
