We are coming for our 2nd (ever) family trip to Disney in July. It will be me and my husband, our 7 year old and 3 year old. We are renting from a DVC member. Our view is stated as "Standard", but what types of views or areas of the resort should/could we request? Which do you think would be best for our family considering children's ages? I would appreciate any and all feedback you can give me.
Thank you so much!!

Just ask to be near the elevators it is a huge resort and only has 1 elevator bank.

Standard views are of the main entrance of the resort and the parking lot.

We had a preferred boardwalk-view room, which I loved. Beautiful view of the boardwalk, lake, and Yacht & Beach Club (with Spaceship Earth in the background). The one caveat about a boardwalk-view room is that the sounds of the boardwalk may make it difficult to sleep up until closing, although I never had any problems with that. Oh, and it was a good 1-minute walk from the elevators without children.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

From reading other threads, I was under the impression that although it is a standard view room, as a DVC reservation, one can try to request a specific view/room. It seems from other replies that this may not be the case. Oh, well, don't know if I don't ask.

Have a great day, and thanks again!

I wouldn't say there's a specific "view" for standard. It's the side of the building that looks toward the entrance/parking lots. We've stayed there twice, and I think the view is fine, though we don't spend a lot of time sitting on the balcony anyway. We were able to see the higher fireworks from Illuminations. Both times we were fourth floor, close to the elevators, and we liked it a lot. However, some people have said the noise from the luggage carts below has bothered them, so if you go further down the hall you wouldn't have that issue. If you have a stroller or someone who would have trouble navigating the stairs, I'd request close to the elevator. The hallway is very long, but if you're at the end you're that much closer to walk to MGM, provided you can use the stairs or are on the first floor.

We love the BWV. Enjoy!

Thank you for your input! We will have a stroller (a double one--the long kind). My husband is worried about the noise around the elevator though. I guess we will just let our room fall where it may.

We are so excited about staying at Boardwalk. Thanks again!

I believe you can pay for either a standard- or preferred-view room at BWV, but as for exactly where your room is, you can only request it and hope for the best (such as requesting the boardwalk view).

I have to add that the noise has never been a problem for us. We were about six or seven doors down from the elevators, but were on the 4th floor. Maybe request an upper floor, on the end of the building closer to the elevators. Be sure to take in some of the evening entertainment on the BW. It sure spoils you with that great location!

fyi:) , BW view is now a booking catagory, not a request (there are 3 catagories: standard view, preferred pool/garden view, preferred BW view). & a "tidbit": BW view can only be booked with points, never cash.

requesting specific rooms is usually futile (b/c "the" room would need to just happen to be empty at the time of your arrival. as DVC resorts operate at a very high occupancy level, it is extremely unlikely that a room specific request could be granted).
however, you can make general requests (remembering that they are only a request, & not guaranteed:rolleyes: ):
~ proximity to elevators. closer preferred, as you have the stroller. from personal experience (both my parents need canes to walk), requests for medical reasons, e.g., limited mobility, are given preference for the rooms nearest the elevators (after the HA rooms)). & reassure your DH that in many years of staying at the BWVs, we never had a prob with elevator noise. :)
~ floor level. higher floors will have better views of fireworks, etc. many ppl with little ones prefer ground floor as they do not have to worry about the children on the balcony, & have a beautiful patio that may open onto the huge lawn.

have a wonderful time ~ the BWVs are like a vacation within a vacation, & our absolute favorite WDW resort:thumbsup2

We've stayed in standard alot. Like my fellow posters have said, not much of a choice of view for standard. Pretty much, parking lot or front drive way up to the entrance. Most folks opt for a choice of floor. I'm a ground floor person, but if you get an upper floor and are facing the driveway, you may get to see the fireworks at EPCOT. By having a standard view you are guranteed NOT to get pool view or boardwalk view.

 Okay, so there are guarantees!

When you had ground floor, was there any privacy there on your patio? With 2 little ones, the ground floor is appealing. Someone said that there is a lawn to play/run on.

Thanks so much!

Check out this link, members.aol.com/InstImpres/boardwalk.pdf. It has a report on specific rooms and can help you decide priorities for room request. Remember not to request a specific room number (Disney will not understand why you want room 4053) but list of priorities; ie view of lake, higher floor, near elevator. List them in order of importance to you.

Have a magical trip!

Generally Disney will upgrade room (view) based on availability, but not DVC reservations "on points" Disregard every post that talks about how to get a free upgrade, you'll get the standard view your reserved.

DVC units are generally almost 100% booked. Don't plan on checking in early, OK you can check in early but don't count on your unit being available prior to check in time.

Okay, Lewis, I get that.

I understand about not checking in before 4. Let me ask you this--we will definitely get there before then; so what do we do about parking, etc. while we use our first day ticket? Can we go ahead and park at the Boardwalk until we can check in? Do you know how this works? I know people on magical express can go ahead and be dropped off at the parks before check in. Thanks for the info!

Check in as soon as you can. You'll get your parking pass and KTTW card. Your card will include your tickets and meal plan, if you purchased them.

You'll probably be given a phone number to call later, which will give you your room number.
