Need help with a gift surprise

We got DS a bike/scooter for Christmas..it's large, like a bike.

He is so sure he is getting it that I would like to not put it under/by the tree Christmas morning and have some fun with him. I want him to find it quickly though.

Do you have any great ideas?

My one and only idea is to fill one of those bike bags with newspaper so it looks like it's there but he has to go thru all the newspaper to find a card which tells him where it is.

When DH was in high school, his mom got him an electric guitar and amp one year and nothing else. She sent him on a scavenger hunt through the house for him to find it so that he wouldn't be done opening gifts right away. She had an obvious clue by the tree, and it led him to different clues hidden around the house. He finally found the guitar and the amp in the garage. I've always thought that was a great idea.

You could tell him he needs to take the trash out after he opens his presents (and finds there is no bike), and put it by the trash cans.

Put a box under the tree with a short clue/ poem in it telling him where to go to find the next clue/poem, and have him kind of schlepping all over the house. My brother did this to me one year when he made me a gradnfather clock, and it was a lot of fun. He had me go into the refrigerator, and then to their cat's collar, and then to the upstairs bathroom and then to their sunroom, where the clock was waiting with a big red bow!
