Need help w/Photoshop

I have a 30-day trial of Photoshop...trying to creat some designs. I have had good luck using a wallpaper, adding a border & some words, but there are a couple of circle designs that I cannot add text to. One is a Mickey head & the other a circle of Mickey heads for Epcot. I am adding a text layer & typing the text. The text is only visible on the right side of the screen in the layer section. I have tried changing the color of the text & making it bigger, but there is nothing there. I know I must be doing something stupid. I still have 23 days left of my trial, but want to do these myself. Thanks to all the experts for the help in advance. Here is the one that I was successful with, & the one I couldn't figure out.

My best guess would be the text layer is behind the Mickey head layer. In the layers list it should come before the Mickey head, not after it. You should be able to click on the text layer and drag it above the Mickey head layer. There may also be an Arrange option on one of the menus.

On PSE 6, you can right click either on the layer itself or where the layer is listed (can't remember and I'm not at home), and select move layer forward (for the type layer) or move layer back (for the layer that is blocking the type layer). That will most likely make the layer visible, if that's the problem.
