Speaking from a cost effective standpoint, I can't remember where I saw it, but someone had used small pumpkins, like cinderellas coach. I'd bump it up a notch and maybe use some silver wire for the legs and platinum spray to gussy it up, maybe hollow out the center and use a votive inside- very cost effective. That would spare some money to add more pizzaz to other elements such as embossed placecards or fresh flower petals.
On another note, I have heard that some brides give their bouquets away to the longest married couple in the room. You could do something similar by buying several pairs of glass (well, plastic, but you get the idea) shoes as centerpieces for each table and filling them with flowers/candy/etc and addressing a note such as:
"Please return this slipper to the princess of the table whom has enjoyed the longest life of wedded bliss."
Something cute I'm thinking of doing.
