Hi All! so Disney Visa has free dining, and I have to make the phone call like Right Now - so I hope some of you are out there right now. We have actually stayed at both of these before, but not too recently. This trip is just for my DH and myself for travel November 26th. Are all rooms at both resorts renovated at this point? All have queen beds? Tell me which has better pool bars, lounge areas. Should I request a certain area? Is it worth it to pay for a area or view? Any opinions would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance - Jane

Let me know if you get through!!! I just called and they told me it was going to be a system upgrade until 2pm and couldn't take reservations :(.

I would choose POFQ. It seems more romantic. We were just at POR last November and really liked it too though.

Yes, their system is down:(:(. She told me to call back after 1:00. I have to be at work at 1:00, ugh!

I've stayed at both...I like POR better. POFQ was so worn down when we stayed there last (3 years ago). However, if it's been refurbished I would give it a try.

I stayed at the CR and loved it last year. WL a few years before that, and CSR. Hated CSR! March 2013 we will be at AoA. I want to try them all!

Almost everything is finished as far as refurb (I think it all should be done in the fall? There's info on portorleans.org that will tell you the exact info.) I want to say all of POFQ is done, all of Magnolia Bend/mansions are done, and most of Alligator Bayou is done, but they're still working in AB.
Honestly, the walk isn't bad at all from one to the other- we stayed in POFQ and walked over to POR several times. I think the only lounge is at POR (that's where Yeeha Bob is.) As far as I remember, POFQ only has counter service. The pools are pretty similar (and you can use both.) The pool bars are probably similar, and most of the pool bars in WDW have similar drinks.
I believe I've read that bus service is better at POFQ...but I've learned that bus service at ANY resort is hit or miss.

POFQ has a lounge and there is entertainment; Eliot Dyson is a jazz saxophonist.

POFQ does not have a restaurant; POR does.

There is a very well-maintained thread for both resorts.

I just upgraded to a garden view in POFQ . My TA just informed me that this fall's FD doesn't extend to regular rooms in POR or POFQ. So...when you book your room, ensure that you're in one of the non-standard rooms or you may not qualify for the FD promotion. I'm guessing that River view and other special rooms will qualify as well.

Just a heads up!

I had to change our standard view to a garden view to add the free dining too.

I prefer POR in the mansion section, either Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House close to Old Man Island Bridge. Great location.

I prefer POR because I like the option of having a quiet pool, esp since our kids are young adults now. And we enjoy a swim. Sometimes we enjoy the main pool, but sometimes the quiet pool, all about options!

POR Riverside also has evening entertainment at night, a larger food court & store. The pool bar is nice. Last time I got a Pina Colava, yum.

Both resorts have been recently refurbed. queen beds. I had a new room last Aug at POR :thumbsup2 and Ive seen the FQ rooms which are very nice too.

well, we booked POFQ w/ FD....b/c we can walk from one to the other pretty easily for swimming,dining,etc....:thumbsup2 (have to see yeeha Bob)
I like the look of POFQ just a smidge more than POR,and when I called yesterday at 7:30 a.m.- the lady told me she was looking at a regular room, but by the time we got done talking...it was reserved so I booked garden view.but I think I want a view of the river.....hhmmmmm....the garden view was 10 more per night according to my numbers,so not a big deal.....
