I am hosting my first ever Pin Meet here in Ohio on the 10th of November. We are meeting at the food court of the mall. Do I need to have activities planned, snacks, games, nametags.....oh my! Or do I just let them trade with each other and make their own fun. HELP never done this before and I want it to be a hit!

Cindy

.....you need to get with MeanLaureen and AZJazzy J........now *they* know how to put together a pin meet......:D

Good luck with yours, and have fun!

Cindy,
There's no primer on this subject. Some have brought snacks, but don't try to do it all yourself, as the others to provide items. Sometimes if you give advance notice, everyone brings a wrapped pin for a pin bag swap. Sometimes we've had a Disney Trivia game with prizes. Normally, everyone is so wrapped up in looking at everyones pins and trading that anything else might be a distraction. Primary purpose......Have fun!

Cindy,

Tell me more about the pin meet!! Which mall!?
I hadn't heard anything about it.

The last one I went to was at the Southpark mall many moons ago....

How'd I miss it, or is it invitation only?

Jan

Everyone is invited. Great Lakes Mall Mentor Ohio Nov 10th at approx 11am.
We will wait in line for pins and then trade....so it may start a little earlier than 11am. We will be in the food court. Any suggestions???

Hi Cindy,

The one thing that I always do before scheduling a pin meet at a local mall is call the security department and get their permission. Some malls have very finicky security departments and don't like things going on that they weren't aware would be happening. This is especially important now with all that's been going on in the news.

I found that most people just want to trade pins. We did do some Disney games when we were able to meet in the Community Room of a local mall, but I found it difficult to do much of anything else, other than trade , when meeting in the Food Court.

Nametags would be a good idea. Most of us in the Philly group know one another, but it would be useful for newcomers. I'll have to remember that for our next meet.

Hope these tips help...feel free to e-mail if I can help you out with anything else.

Jan - I'm surprised that you missed the announcements. There are actually TWO DISmeets going on Saturday November 10th. The first one at Great Lakes Mall in Mentor that Cindy is hosting, and a 2nd DISmeet at Summit Mall in the afternoon that Ang is hosting. We'll probably start bumping all of these threads next week to make certain that nobody is left out.

Cindy - There are NO rules for having a DISmeet. Sometimes I bring nametags. Tuffcookie is baking Mickey cookies with lime green frosting for the Summit Mall meet. At the first DISmeet that I attended, my DW Sue purchased some Disney items (pencils, gloves, stickers, etc.) at KMart and passed them out to the little ones who attended. As we have had more DISmeets in NE Ohio, we have gotten much less formal. The only rule is to show up and have fun.

Asking mall security is a good idea. When I attended a DISmeet in Illinois this spring, mall security got a bit antsy. I think that got suspicious when all the pin traders brought out their books and started trading. They thought we were running a Tupperware party or something. I'm certain that the Great Lakes DISmeet will turn out to be a lot of fun. I look forward to meeting some new people and renewing old friendships next Saturday.

The only rule is to bring pins!! :D :D

Sometimes I bring my trip photos for the non-pin people to peruse. Actually, I think that this is the first "Pin" meet in NEO. Except for Jan and I at Southpark one day :D

I am just excited to have other pin people around!!

I will check on the security issue tomorrow while at the mall. I really dont see it as a problem, early in the day there arent many people around the food court til noonish. But I will check.

I sure hope the weather holds for those traveling.....

I am nervous....this is my first attempt at a meet. Paul went to the DS last week and met some pin people, he said they were all excited to see the WDW pins and see how I framed them....oh crud. Nat can you mail me some of yours that I can claim to be mine??? just kidding...;) well gang wish me luck...

Debbie I am counting on you to help me remember names....you did get someone to cover that class right???

Beverly are you still coming??

Who will be in line for pins at 9 ish with me??
