Ok here is the story.
After deciding that DVC was for us, we found a great resale contract on OKW, sent our offer in to the broker, got it accepted and signed the contract.
it passed ROFR 2 weeks later.
we got our documents from the escrow co. yesterday, but I still feel a little uncomfortable to send a cashier check to the escrow company... kind of blindly.
I did research the escrow company and the timeshare broker with the BBB and found no complains on either.
Is there any other way to pay? like to use paypal.
or any other ideas, or stories from who been there done that?
Is there any other research I can do?
Can I contact Disney direct and inquire about this contract?
Thanks for your help....
~sitting on the contract... :wave2:

I don't have many answers for you. I, too, just send a cashiers check to the closing company. I am still awaiting to close. There was a hold-up with the closing company not having our correct email address and for whatever reason had to 're-send' the seller the closing papers again..................

I was uncomfortable (and still am) but we have contacted the closing company several times and finally somone called back to give us an answer........we should be closing by the end of the week (today being friday, we should be closed!!).......

Good luck and I know how you feel..................

The closing company holds your money in escrow as would any real estate closing company. You checked BBB. You can also check the history, status and any complaints against the broker's license. Use this link:

I am unsure why PayPal would be any safer, except that it should be less likely to be misdirected. Use an overnight shipping service such as FedEx or UPS if you want to ensure that it has arrived safely.

When we used The Timeshare Store we got fast efficient service. We would use them again.

I do understand how you feel, but I do think things will turn out correctly, you did what you can to insure safety. Disney took our proposed resale at ROFR, and immediately, I felt uncomfortable about that deposit we had in escrow. Shontell suggested that we leave the deposit where it was and wait until we find another resale to bid on. That wasn't for us, and was part of the reason that after I got off the phone with her, I called DH and suggested that we think about a direct sale.

BUT the deposit came back to us in a very timely manner. So, IF (read WHEN) we decide to add on again, we will try resale first.

Can't wait to welcome you home!

My DH and I are presently closing on an OKW resale and I just sent the closing papers with a certified check this week. I sent it UPS with a tracking number. Yes, I too, were a little weary but so far everything has gone quickly and smoothly for us. I feel very confident with Shontell and she has always been great with communication, etc. I am sure your closing will work out just fine and you will be going "home" soon. Good Luck!!

wow, you know what's funny... is when i first bought in to DVC, i bought resale too.
and everything was handled very professionally, so i never had any of these paranoid thoughts.
i never worried about the escrow/closing company (Timeshare Closing Services).
i'd read about them here on the boards before... and many people had reported using them without problems on their resales.
the main thing that i fretted about was ROFR!!!

anyway, good luck to you. i'm sure everything will turn out fine.
who is your closing company btw?

The closing company is First american Title, and the timeshare broker is Timeshare resales worldwide.
Anyone with experience with them?

Neither of these will be acceptable ,sorry

We recently bought through shontell. I would have loved to charge it on the credit card. They don't allow it. They are concerned with contesting the purchase with the credit card company. This was exactly the insurance I was trying to get. They are very specific about sending good funds only. Shontell used Holland and Knight. They are a large national legal company. They even have an office locally. This made me feel more comfortable mailing good funds to them.

They received good funds (final payment) on a Monday and I was able to book my ressie on Thursday.

We were told to mail the check to a specific individual handling the account. Why not give the specific individual a call and maybe you could get a feel for them. Maybe ask the individual for a reference. Maybe ask the broker for references on the escrow agent. If everybody seems indignant by the questions, it would make me feel less comfortable If people seem understanding and cooperative I would feel more comfortable.

WOW....I feel strange....I never thought once about it.....
