Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Hey Sistahs!!1

Welcome Mawnna!! Hop right into the fray here at the Massive Thread!! We are glad to have you.

Well this week I have been really good. On WW points every day, no flex, no activity points. Since Monday, I have lost 3.2 lbs!!! I had a dr. appt yesterday, he was a little disappointed that I had not lost more since I saw him in Nov. I told him that I have been in maintenance and slightly off track, but am back on the wagon now. DH is doing well too-he went back to doing SlimFast, as that works well for him, and he has lost 6 lbs since Monday (I so hate him, ugh) But we are trying to get thinner before vacation, and I really think I can drop 20 lbs before we go in 6 weeks.

Today is my off day from exercise, but tomorrow at 7 am I am supposed to go running with my inlaws. But we had 5 inches of snow yesterday, so I don't know if we are still on. If not, then I will just run on the treadmill at home, which I like better anyway.

Hoping that you all are doing well, for those who are new to this crazy bunch of gals, don't be shy, jump right in, we are here for you. This was the first thread I got involved with here on WISH and now you can't stop me!!! Also, for anyone interested, I run the monthly Exercise Challenge, so stop on over and join up. Its a fun motivator, and if you like a little competition in your life, a great way to get your self moving.

Gotta run-more housecleaning to do, DD's new bed came this morning so I have to finish washing the comforter, pillow shams etc. And I still have to do our state taxes.

Later, Sistahs!!!!!

My name is Shawnna. Mawnna is me and my husband combined. Mark and Shawnna. Actually I've been on the Disboard for several years but quit posting a few years back and I couldn't remember my password and my email has changed and I can't reset it. Soooo.....I just created a new one and started over. I used to be Markshaw. :)

I do have a plan. My husband purchased a nice eliptical machine for me about a year ago but I have not put it to good use. That will be changing. I also have been looking through so accumulated diet cookbooks from over the years. I have a Diabetic cookbook that looks very interesting. Neither of us have diabetes but their diet is a very sensible one.

My goal for this week is to at least get 3 to 4 days of eliptical excercise in, start with the 8 8oz glasses of water a day, and work on the fruit. I don't dislike fruit, I just hate fooling with it. I'm looking at starting with 1500 calories a day to begin with. I know that even though it is high, it's still going to be a drastic reduction for me. I've been eating some pretty serious calories every day to pack on the weight and maintain it. :rolleyes1

Thank you for the warm welcomes. :goodvibes It's nice to have some "sistas" to talk with.

Know I'm here to root you on too! :cheer2: All have a great day!

I know the feeling on the calories. Back in the fall I was averaging 1200-1300 and the weight was coming off great. DH knew this. In order to remain accountable I would tell him my weight each morning and my total calories at the end of the day.
So when I started back recently and told him I was going to start with 15-1600 for a few weeks til my body adjusted again and I wasn't starving all the time, he says something like "that's a lot higher than what you were doing before". Felt like strangling him:rolleyes:
So then I pointed out it was about the same amount of calories he eats at lunch each day, and he got quiet pretty quick.:lmao:

Hope the elliptical works out for you, too. That's great to have it to do at home.:thumbsup2

 Laura

I would like to go off topic, kinda, for just one question. Why can't I get my weight ticker thing to work at the bottom? Do I have to have a certain number of posts or something. I had it in my signature but it only came up as the text. When I start losing I want to be able to see it.

Okay, I'm back on now. Laura, thanks for the post. I'm glad that you felt that you could start a little higher for a few weeks to get back on track. It's very easy for people who are not trying or don't have to lose to not understand that you can't just start eating perfectly the first day. Make a significant change but don't make it so hard that you sabatoge yourself because you feel like your about to die if you can't have a few more bites. I have been at this for so long that I (and I'm sure everyone who is here or reads this knows what I mean) could write a book. It's not the knowledge of what to do, it's the applying it to our life that we have a problem with. I believe though that talking to people that truly know what you're going through makes a huge difference.

Keep up the good work! :wizard:

Hi everyone. Just found this thread and have been very motivated reading it. I have lost about 20 pounds since January and have about 90 more to go. It is great to know I am not alone.

I've had that happen, too, with my counter. I went back, and tried to add the code again that is given at the bottom of the counter page, and it worked. I think I inadvertently erased part of the code while adding to my signature.

I have had a crazy busy month, enough to make me scream at times. Don't remember the last time I posted here--I guess I should check before boring everyone with repeats.

Going back to mid-February, my son got a special award at the Cathedral for scouts. Our pastor is the Catholic scout chaplain for the archdiocese, so it was extra special because he was there. I have some pictures (including of me), but, I am not sure how to do it yet, but, will get around to it.

We had the worst flu season I can remember for a long time, and we were incredibly busy. Fortunately, it is dying down--haven't seen flu for about two weeks. Everybody in my family had a flu shot, so, none of us got the flu, including me, who unfortunately was coughed on more than once by patients with known flu.

Keeping up with my diet and exercise. Losing weight slowly, but that is OK.

We are going to Florida tomorrow. We are going to the St. Augustine area, where I will be attending a CME conference. I hope to have a bit more relaxing time.

Best wishes to everyone, and welcome to all who are new.

Welcome Susan and thanks Delilah. I just went to the site and copied it again, let's see if it works. I had someone else tell me that I needed to copy the HTML and paste it. Well see.....

Oh my gosh! I just looked and it's there!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!! It worked! Thanks ya'll!

More newcomers-how wonderful!!! Welcome Susan!!:flower3:

delilah-it has been a bad flu season and we have been lucky to avoid it. Dh works in a middle school, my DD is in 3rd grade and I am a hygienist. Talk about maximum exposure. But none of us got the flu shot this year. The one and only time I had one, I was sick for 2 months. My MD says that one has nothing to do with the other, but all I know is that I have never been as sick as when I got that flu shot.

I had my first runners group run today. Its a small group-me, FIL and MIL! We did 3 miles at the school campus in the 14 degree weather!! It was bright and sunny at least. As of this morning I am down 4 pounds since last Monday. It has been tough at times to not eat more because I am still hungry, but I have been true to plan and running every day except for Saturday (my one off day). I am determined to lose 20 lbs by 5/9/08. After that I am hoping to be to goal by my birthday in November.

Keep on keepin on ladies, I am proud of you and to know you. We can do this and WILL!

Vern - Holy cow! Out running in 14 degree weather!?:scared1:
You know, you have been an inspiration to me since I began posting on WISH, and even more so after I read things like that. So dedicated!:goodvibes

I was on plan again yesterday coming in right at 1520 calories. I got most of my sons' room painted then ran out of paint. DH was at our Democratic county convention, and it went a lot longer than expected, so I wasn't able to go out for more paint (only one car). Today has been spent cleaning, decluttering, putting things on Craigslist to sell, and now we are about to take several boxes of books over to Half Price Book Store. It has been raining all morning, so I haven't been able to get out and do yard work yet.

I'm allowing myself a "normal" eating day today. (Well, 2000 calories, which is actually lower than my typical "normal":rolleyes1 ). Then this next week I will be shooting for between 1400 - 1500 calories/day. I already have my alarm set for 5am on MWF to start my extremely modified version of C25K. And My Tu/Th evening are scheduled for my Curves workout.
Hopefully I should have some butt kickin' weight loss this next week!:yay:

Hope the weekend is going good for everyone!

 Sistahs!

Laura-

I had read your other post about the C25K program. I have to say that I would have had a hard time with the time element, as right now I can only run at 5mph and that is after a year of running consistently!!! Take it at your pace-run slowly for as long as you can and try to increase it every week. I did a 10 week program but had walked consistently for 3 months before I started. So while you may think I *rock* at the running, it has taken a long time to get to where I am. And that is okay. I am trying to increase my time, as I told my FIL that I could run my next 5k in less than 30 minutes! So I need to be running at at least 6.1 or 6.2 mph. I can do 6mph for intervals but not sustained. I still have two months until the next 5k (which is a national qualifying race to boot, only women and heavily attended, not to mention up and down hill). I should be able to drop more weight and increase my speed. Why am I telling you all this? Not to discourage you, but hopefully to give you hope on doing well too. If I can do it, anyone can. I have faith that you can do it too. I will be here for you  if you have questions or want to vent-thats what us Sistahs do!!

Keep up the good work with your eating plan, it is hard, I know. As I type this, I am listening to my tummy grumble. I ran this morning, came home and had breakfast (coffee, one piece of toast, 1 cup of cereal) did some housework then had lunch (lean cuisine, yogurt, and cereal bar) Then we went out to the library, the mall to walk and the bookstore. Now I am starving with 2 more hours until dinner. I have been drinking my water, but it aint cuttin it. So I am trying to keep my fingers busy typing.

I'll check in again soon.

.

Yes, Vern, I do think you:rockband: with the running! And it's because of the fact that while it may have taken you a year to get to where you are, you didn't give up and continue to do it and improve yourself! That is very inspirational to me. :goodvibes

I was walking fairly consistently during the fall, then stopped around beginning of December. I started back up a couple weeks ago, and after this morning, know I need to stick with the walking a little while longer before trying to add the jogging part in there. I want to be able to run so badly. I have awesome dreams about running all the time, and wake from them thinking, "wow, I want that." So trying not to feel discouraged and realizing that it takes time and a lot of dedication.
Of course, most things in life do. I'm trying to get over being an immediate gratification kinda girl.;)

Hope everyone is having an awesome Monday!

Good Morning, Sistahs!

Welcome Shawwna and Susan!

Well I weighed in this morning for the BL challenge and I am down 1.5. I am finally back to where I was before the holidays. It has been a struggle for me maintaining, gaining and losing those same few pounds. It is very fustrating but I am going to stick with it because I am worth it!

Laura - I feel you girl! I am an instant gratification girl as well! I think that is why I have always failed in the past. If something didn't work right away I would just give up. I now realize that this is a slow process and a life style change. Keep up the great work you have been doing and you will be successful. I hope things are going better for you!

Vern - You are an inspiration to all of us! You've shown us what hard work and dedication can do! You rock!

Deliah - Congrats on your son's award! Hope you are having a great time in Florida!

Mare - How are you doing?

Have a great day Sistahs! :grouphug:

Things are going good for me. I've stayed true to plan since last Thursday. I was down a little this morning, so it was nice to see that. I still have another 11ish pounds to go til I'm back down to what I was at in December. I would *love* to get there by May1, but we will see.

Yesterday morning was my walk/jog(haha-didn't quite work out) exercise day, and I will be doing my Curves workout tonight.

Hope everyone one else is doing good!

hi everyone
i have been following you all for a bit now, and was wondering if it was ok to join you all on your journeys, as i have a bit of a journey to go on too, it is some trip, and i really need some support, :)

We love newcomers! Just hop right on in and start posting. We are all here for the long haul, so we have plenty of time to get to know each other.

All in all we are having a good time in Florida. The CME conference I am attending is interesting. It is from 8-12 or so each morning. Yesterday, we went to St. Augustine to visit the historic visit. We particularly wanted to see the Cathedral of St. Augustine, which is the oldest Catholic church in the US, dating from the 1500's, with continuous parish records since 1794. The church is beautiful. I had wanted to visit since I attended the University of Florida; we were married at St. Augustine church in Gainesville, which was the Catholic student center at UF. Today, my husband and son went to visit his family in Tampa, so, I got to go to the beach (which I can see from my room). Tomorrow should be another nice day for outdoor activities.

The bad part so far has been the door lock on our room. The lock keeps getting deprogrammed, and every time I return, I have to call security to let me in. Well, if it's any consolation, nobody's key works, so random people aren't coming into my room. It slowed us down last night when we got back from St. Augustine. We only got to exercise 30 minutes, because it took that long for security to unlock our door so we could change. This afternoon, the same thing. I wasn't going to change my clothes while the workers had my door propped open to change the lock. But, I was still able to take a nice walk on the beach, and then go to the fitness center here for 50 minutes this afternoon. One of my partners is at the conference, too, and I had dinner with him and his family, which was very nice. It is really enjoyable to attend a conference with someone I know, but, not very practical to have two doctors out of the office at the same time.

madhouse mum-Glad to have you here!!! Jump right in-the water's fine!!!

Mare-good to hear from you-I know this time of year is busy for lots of people, just keep going!!!

Laura-Keep on keepin on Sistah!!!

delilah-glad you are enjoying Florida! How wonderful to be able to go outside for exercise! We had horrible thunderstorms today, but it was nice and warm. Gonna be 20 degrees colder tomorrow and windy. YUCK!!!

I am *almost* back to my lowest weight since I started this journey-and then I have to keep moving downward towards my goal. I'll get there, but I am enjoying the ride along the way too!

Hey Sistahs!

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I was able to get some exercise in this week which I am happy about. Today I am really tired and my foot is killing me but I have to push through!

I have been helping my niece research how our family came to Pittsburgh for a school project. It is pretty interesting but I think it is a bit of an ambitious project for a third grader! They have to do a story book or story board with pictures, timelines and essays. Crazy!

Hope everyone is having a great day and have a great weekend!

Michele :grouphug:
