Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Good morning Sistahs!

If you look at the bottom of my siggie, you will notice something new. I GOT A 40 POUND BANNER!!! I weighed in today at 174.8, my goal for the week, making my total loss 40.2 lbs!!! :cool1: Only 10 more pounds and I am half way to my ultimate goal! It feels so good to see those numbers get smaller each week. I want to thank all of you for your support and understanding, because I really, truly think it helps me to stay on plan and keep going.

2p/1princess: -How are you doing since the fridge makeover? I'll tell ya, since we have gone to the healthy lifestyle, my DD is totally okay with it. She does not seem to miss things we had before, but then she is an unusual child as she likes vegetables and fruits, and will try almost anything.

Well Sistahs, I gotta go do some chores before I go to work. Laundry:laundy: waits for no one, except the naked (no wait, the naked wait for the laundry!:rotfl: )

Have a great day!!

Congratulations on your 40 pound banner. That's such an amazing accomplishment and a total inspiration! You go girl!! You must be looking fabulous. Can you see big differences in yourself yet??

I'm doing amazingly well since the fridge makeover. We've signed up for organic produce delivery, which is totally :cloud9:. They send such a nice variety every week and the kids are thrilled to go through the box.

I had a cruddy day yesterday - not diet-wise, just everything else-wise. I turned to my husband in the evening and said - Normally, I'd go get myself a big Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha on a night like this, but I know it will just make me feel worse in the morning. If I want one tomorrow, I'll have it early and work it into my day. It felt good to be making such a great choice. Hopefully, today (as a day) will be better. I've been doing great with the eating, though I just noticed it's 10am and I've only had a cup of green tea. Need to get off my fat duff and eat something. :)

Hey everyone,

I've been so busy the past few days and I don't really know why! :confused3 Today, I'm going to start packing because the kids and I are leaving for a short beach trip on Sat. We're going to Nags Head Sat. -Tues. and then we are going to stop in Williamsburg on our way home to visit my Aunt. This is the first time that I've taken the twins on a vacation without dh. I'm a little nervous about it, but I'm sure we'll be fine. After all, I'm the one that deals with them day in and day out anyhow. I'm just used to dh helping out in the evenings.

I'm going to take a lot of points friendly food with me on the trip so hopefully, I'll come back with a loss. We're staying with my best friend from college and she has done WW in the past as well, so she is very supportive. She'll make me go on long beach walks too. :beach:

Vern- Congrats on your 40lb loss. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: That is just so awesome. You must be feeling great.

2Ps & a princess: - WTG on not getting the high calorie coffee drink after your bad day. I think the emotional eating is the hardest thing to change and it's where I've gotten derailed in the past. I like how you decided that you could still get the Mocha, but only when you could work it into your day.

Hi to everyone else who comes by today.

Carol

Well, today I weighed in at 146 1/2 lbs. I didn't quite make 145 lbs by the first day of school, but, I did make the goal of 50lb wt loss. Yesterday was the first day of school. This evening I have a school commission meeting, so, I've spent the morning preparing--I am chairman of that commission and this evening, we are bringing refreshments (it changes each month that a different commission brings refreshments). So, I had to prepare my presentation for the meeting, and make something for the meeting.

This morning, I also had my annual exam. My blood pressure was 96/60, so, my medication got lowered again. I'll see how I do with the lower dose. Less medicine is always better, I always say. My doctor was telling me that I was a good illustration of what lifestyle changes can do for you. (Sometimes patients don't seem to believe us). When I started out, my blood pressure was 140/90 with a higher dose, combination type medication. Now, I am one step away from being off the medication.

I still have some stuff to for my meeting before picking up my son at school, so, continued good wishes to everybody here.

All of those goals and changes are so amazing! WTG with the weight loss. It must be so exciting to see how unbelievably your body is changing in response to the lower rate. Amazing.

Delilah-Congrats on 50 lbs!!! How exciting!:cheer2: I am looking forward to my checkup in Nov. as my dr. does not yet know how much weight I have lost. He had told me last year to do WW and I finally listened to him!! He will be plenty surprised when I go in. I too am hoping to be off my BP meds.

Stampgirl-enjoy your trip to the beach! Sounds like fun. I have 27 more days until our mini vacation to WDW. Can't wait!!

Terry-20 lbs YOU GO GIRL!!! WOW! Don't worry about the Chinese food, you can't stop living! Let us know how your WI went.

YAY CONGRATS ON THE 40 POUNDS, Veronica!!! :dance3: :yay:  :cheer2: That must feel SO good!!!! Keep up the great work!! :thumbsup2

My WI went fine! I must've been retaining water this morning from the Chinese food last night because I should've shown a 3-pound loss for this week's work weigh-in, but it only showed 2, but I'm still happy anyway! AND I'm still in the lead in the contest! LOL The contest will be over in 2 weeks, I hope I win!!!! :cool2:

I think having a fridge make-over is an excellent idea, and we've sort of done the same thing. I've only been buying good foods, and not replacing the bad stuff, such as regular peanut butter. Now I only buy natural peanut butter. Only brown rice in our cabinets, no more white rice...etc! :)

Congrats on making the right decision regarding the Starbucks! Way to go!!! :thumbsup2

Hi to everyone else who comes by today.

Carol

Have a great trip and a great time at the beach! :sunny: I'll be driving to the Jersey shore tomorrow morning... I'll be back next Wednesday :)

That is great news!! I think it's great that you're lowering your BP!! I take 2 BP medications and I'm really hoping to eventually be able to go off both of them.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'll see you all next Tuesday night or Wednesday!!! :wave2: Veronica, I'll be talking to you on Monday night, from the Jersey Shore! :beach: LOL

Hello Sistahs!

I really wanted to give individual kudos to each and everyone, because it sounds like everyone is doing really well, but we are getting the leading edge of the hurricane/ tropical storm (not to worry--we are north of Dallas, so we're safe), and electrical storms tend to knock our power out, so I want to make this quick (yeah, right! me, a quick message?:rotfl2: ) before the internet goes out.

DS2s check up went well yesterday, but today at the lab for the bloodwork was another story! That phlebotomist worked and poked and finally had to give up trying to find Mason's teeny little vein in his left arm. She went over to his right arm and after a quick examination didn't look very hopeful. I said to the other three kids "You might want to huddle together and say a little prayer..." at which she interjected, "or a big one." Bless her heart, she was so sweet and it broke her heart to be making my baby so miserable. But she got the vein after a little trying on the right arm. But we needed 4 vials (Celiac, Thyroid, CBC...and I forget the other test), and he just stopped bleeding after the 3rd vial. Nada. So she had to do a finger prick for the 4th one. He left that lab all bandaged up--my little "walking wounded." But he's a trooper. I'm not sure when we get the results back.

At the doc's yesterday, we also did DS8's checkup, and the doctor brought up the subject of ADD, which I had mentioned last year. Ethan is not hyperactive at all, I mean he's energetic and active, but you definitely wouldn't look at him and go "hmmmm, ADHD." But he has big problems w/ focus & staying on task. In fact, reading about ADD (no H), he is the poster child. So I tell the doc that I'm hesitant to medicate, and definitely not interested in giving him stimulants, but I want to help him so that he won't be frustrated by taking so long to accomplish things...the doc mentions Strattera, which was originally developed as an antidepressant, but it didn't work, and it's also used as an appetite supressant, and it coincidentally works great for kids w/ ADD. Side effects, I ask-- mild, stomach discomfort, drowsiness. Consider it, he says. Now, I really like my pediatrician, and I know there are great medications out there that do wonderful things to help people. I'm not anti-med at all....but I would say I medicate very conservatively. So I google Straterra, thinking well, if this can help him function and reduce his frustration, then wouldn't that be a good thing? It breaks my heart when I am having to get on to him for the umpteenth time trying to get him to stay on task. So back to google...where I find out, for one thing, that in a sample group of about 1,000 kids, 6 subjects experienced suicidal tendencies--and one of those actually attempted suicide--after being put on Strattera. There have been about 1,500 reports of negative psychological side effects in kids on it. Plus studies showed some serious liver damage, and it is just now coming out that there have been thousands of reports of patients experiencing just that now that the drug has been around for a while. Yeah, no thanks!

So anyway...I do some more research and find out that a stinkin' gluten free diet has shown to greatly improve ADD symptoms. I'm like "Now, God, why do you want to take away my bread??? I mean, I hardly ever eat the stuff. I only get carbs once a day anyway, and you want to take away my bread??? My pasta? My  pizza:eek: ??? No more triscuits? No more flour tortillas? " Do you ever feel like God is raising his eyebrows at you, like "Are you finished yet?":rolleyes1

So I finished my whine session, and you know what? I'm okay. If we need to be a gluten free family, okay. I mean, it's just food. (Did I just say that?) There are about a bazillion other yummy foods that we can eat. And it's not like we can never, ever go out for pizza again. We gave up peanuts & tree nuts & seeds after Ramie was diagnosed w/ her allergy, and there are times when I just really want one of those yummy fruit and nut bars, but it passes. We'll get us a bread machine and make us some gluten free, dairy free, peanut-treenut-seed free bread (yumm...sounds delish...can't wait...yipee;) ), and we'll be okay.

Mason is really having a hard time adjusting to the gluten-free thing. I didn't anticipate that, coz he's only 2. But he is quickly growing tired of this limited menu. The boy misses his whole-grain toast, by golly! He would eat fruit all day I'm sure, but he's suddenly decided that meat and vegetables are gross, and worthy only of being spat out (at mommy), which isn't working for me. And he hates rice:mad: . I'm like, Dude! ya' gotta eat the rice! He ain't buyin what I'm sellin'. He gets soooo mad when I feed him rice. I mixed it in w/ some sweet potatoes & applesauce, and he's like "Dang mom! You went and messed up my applesauce!" Of course, he didn't actually say that. But I know he was thinkin' it. I mean full blown tears. I'm like, man! You know what I would give if I got to eat rice all day?

E's gonna be a hard sell, too. I mean, he's willing to do it in word, but deed...well, that's a different matter entirely. He's a picky eater. He is a "supertaster," which incidentally I read last night is common w/ ADD. He is actually hypersensitive to many stimuli in general. If the water feels warm to me, it's scalding to him, etc. He's learned to deal w/ some of it, but he still has food issues, both taste & texture. Plus, he won't eat beans 'coz they make you toot:rotfl: . I thought boys liked to toot.

So tomorrow we're off to the homeschool store for the last couple of textbooks I need, and then to Sprouts, one of our local natural food markets. I don't know how successful the trip will be, though. They have all their natural herbal oils and stuff right in the front of the store, and I love the smell, but it gives E a headache. Last time it was all we could do to race to get our Agave nectar before he was absolutely sure he was going to either pass out or vomit, if not both. But maybe we can hang out long enough to at least find a couple of cool things.

Okay, so much for my "quick" message:lmao: . Sorry--I'm such a thread monopolizer! I really don't mean to be. Brevity just ain't my strong suit!

But here's a big "Thanks Y'all!" for all the well wishes, thoughts, and prayers. It is a huge comfort!

Good night!:grouphug:

Good Morning, Sistahs!

Congrats Vern on the 40 lbs! How wonderful for you! I bet you are super excited! :thumbsup2 Yeah I am stalking you over on the exercise challenge. Everytime I log on I see where you are and I'm like darn Vern is good, now how can I catch up to her!

Seaspray 20lbs that is great! I am 2.5 lbs away to my mini goal of 20! I already feel my clothes fitting differently. Have a great trip! :beach:

Deliah congrats on 50 lbs! What a feeling to see that on the scale!

Carol have a great trip! :beach:

Ashley my sister in law was a phlebotomist and they don't call them vampires for nothing! I'm sorry Mason had to go through that. I'm sure there is nothing worse in the world than seeing your baby hurting. I hope you find something to help E with his ADD. Good luck with going gluten free.

Well I weighed myself yesterday and I am down another 2.5 lbs! I was exstatic when I saw those numbers finally go down. I was really beating myself up over the no weightloss thing! I know I was being silly but man it really bummed me out. I've started journaling everything I am eating and the exercise I do for that day.

Have a great day and weekend Sistahs!

Michele :flower3:

LaLaRoo-Congrats on the loss!!:cool1: I know the feeling of watching and waiting for the scale to go down and nothing happens.

I had another NSV(non-scale victory) today. I went to Marshalls for sneakers cause my running shoes are totally spent. And I found the exact ones I wanted on clearance. But thats not it. I decided to try on some pants for fun. I was able to pull up button and zipper (although they were rather snug:laughing: ) a pair of Tommy size 14 jeans!!! Not 14W but regular old 14. I don't remember the last time my fat tushy fit into a 14!! I am not ready to wear a 14 on a regular basis, but at least they were regular and not plus size. I was rather psyched about that!! I figure maybe 10 more pounds (for 50 total) I may get into a 14. Though I remember when we went to WDW on our honeymoon, I was 160lbs and am rather sure I was in a 12, maybe a 10. I think my body shape is very different now since I have had my DD.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I have to work tomorrow (if I want to keep going on vacations, then I have to work when I can get extra days!!), but that is okay as it helps me stay on plan when I am busy and not at home!

Take care Sistahs!!:grouphug:

Hi Sistahs!

Everyone must be busy exercising and getting healthy since no one has posted!! Just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing.

I went out running this morning and was feeling really good. Until I stepped on something and twisted my ankle, then fell flat on my face!! Boy was I surprised when I found myself on the ground! I scraped up the palms of my hands and am going to have a nice bruise on my left hip, but at least the ankle is fine. I was tempted to call DH and have him come get me, but I just walked a bit and then I was fine. I think my pride was injured more than my body!

I hope all is well with all of you!:goodvibes

Michele- Yea! on the 2.5 pound loss!:woohoo:

Veronica-- Tommy size 14--:woohoo: !
Falling-- ! Are you okay? That's why I don't jog. Well, that and the fact that I'm lazy...and I hate to sweat...and I have 4 kids....but really, if it weren't for that....

I've been consumed w/ the gluten-free thing. Spent 1/2 my weekly grocery budget at the natural foods store buying everything that was gluten-free/lactose free/peanut-tree-nut-seed-free. It all fit into 2 paper sacks.:scared1: I do the Grocery Game, so I have gotten quite accustomed to my smaller grocery bills--and shopping at the natural food stores is way more expensive than paying full price at the grocery store!

I'm down another pound! I've been stuck at my plateau for a while, and my loss is going really slowly now that I've hit the 70 pound mark. But I'm okay with that. I pumped my workout up just a little (so now I do 9 minutes instead of 8:rotfl2: ), and hopefully this'll be the trick.

PLUS--you know all the promo they've been doing about calcium boosting weight loss?? Well, here's the "skinny" :cheer2: (see, that's the skinny cheerleader. I know. We hate her. But I needed a "skinny" smiley):

Recent studies showed that people who consumed a "medium" to "large" (don'tcha just love when they're so specific??) portion of lowfat (NOT non-fat) dairy such as milk or yogurt with a meal showed a 15-20% reduction in blood fat over people who ate the same meal w/ out the dairy.

ALSO...tonalin CLA (found in dairy) plays a big part in metabolism, and organic milk has 500% more tonalin CLA than non-organic. Plus, it's just plain yummier!

Well, I'd better get a good night's sleep. After Mason's physical therapy in the morning, I have to go officially withdraw DD12 & DS8 from school. Nothing like waiting til the last minute--school starts one week from tomorrow!:sad2:

:grouphug:  :dance3:

Good Morning, Sistahs!

I am very pleased to annouce that with still 26 days to go until my vacation I have achieved my mini goal of a 20 lbs weight loss by my vacation! :cool1: I am so excited! My next mini goal is another 20 by Thanksgiving!

Veronica how are you feeling after your fall? Are you okay? I am so clumsy that I fall or trip all the time. I even trip over stuff that isn't there! Size 14 regular! :cool1: You'll be in a 12 in no time!

Ashley Congrats on another pound and increasing your exercise time! I am not a milk fan, never have been, but thanks for the info. Who knows maybe I'll start drinking it. I never ate yogurt until a few months ago and now I eat it everyday.

I received a call from my cousin this weekend asking me to watch his kids (haven't spoken to him in about a year, his choice not mine). So I reluctenly agreed. His one daughter is 4 years old and the sweetest little girl. I was appalued when she came in. This poor little girl is so heavy at 4 that she has a hard time playing and walking up and down steps. We weighed her and she is 82 lbs! :scared1: My mom and I are very concerned for her but how do you voice your concern to her father when he doesn't seem to be concerned at all! When we were kids we were both slightly overweight. Doesn't he remember what that was like?! Anyway I just had to get that off of my chest. Thanks for letting me vent!

Have a great day sistahs and thanks for all the support! I could have not gotten through these last 6 weeks with out all of you! :grouphug:

Michele--:thumbsup2 20 pounds! Terriffic! And with 26 days to spare--you go girl!!

Wow, I hear you about your cousin's daughter. Just as a comparison, my almost-4 yr. old DD weighs about 35 pounds, and is pretty tall for her age. Men just process things so much differently than women. If they don't know how to fix something, they just can't deal with it.

I think one of the biggest culprits is that evil corn syrup. It's in almost everything we eat, and our bodies just can't metabolize it--it's got an unbelievable glycemic index. And MSG is found in so many processed foods. MSG breaks down muscle tissue, which lowers metabolism and increases fat, and it has an addictive quality (tied to the tongue & tastebuds, I believe I read), that causes you to want more and more. Evil stuff.

I really think the key is to make sure our kids eat plenty of "real food"; fruits, veggies, yogurt (w/ out corn syrup & food coloring, IMHO). My kids have always been big pasta eaters. I would always make up batches of plain bowties or penne and just keep it in the fridge in a bowl. When they wanted a snack, they just grab a bowl of pasta. We'd take baggies of it in the car. Now, as an adult and being on a plan that restricts my carbs most of the day, that seems so counterintuitive. But I really think it has to do with the fact that they have never eaten a lot of processed or junk food, so their bodies know exactly what to do with a bowlful of plain pasta.

Also, these kids drink milk like baby cows! I kept them all on whole until well past 2 yrs., and now they drink mostly 2%, occasionally whole, virtually always organic. I'm not trying to be preachy or claim to be a wondermommy, but I was a chubby child from about the age of 5 or 6, and while I didn't want to create body image or food issues for my kids, I darn sure didn't want them to have the same struggles. DD12 is an absolute beanpole. She has those thin supermodel legs that I could only have in my dreams! DS8 & DD3 are both on the slender side, but you wouldn't look at them and call them skinny, but they don't have any obvious "chub."

Maybe as God opens up a door for you and your cousin to have more contact, you'll be presented with the opportunity to help him. I know this is breaking your heart--to see this sweet little girl and know what lies ahead for her. I'll pray for your cousins heart to be open to dialogue.

Ashley and LaLaRoo-

Thanks for the concern following my klutziness yesterday. I am fine from that, but my arms are KILLING me from vacuuming the pool to close it yesterday. Yes, sadly, we closed our pool yesterday. It was only 68 degrees in the water and with the cool temps for the next few days, it is not going to improve dramatically. And then once school starts, and we go to WDW, its October before you know it and neither DH nor I wants to go in the 50 degree water to take out the ladder and such. So now its done and if we want to swim we will go to the YMCA. My triceps are so sore, since I have not been working out with weights AT ALL. But I can get back to the gym in 3 more weeks, once school starts again. I am still on track with the running.

LaLaRoo- :cool1: :thumbsup2 :woohoo: All right on making your mini goal!!! And with plenty of time to spare! How heartbreaking about your little niece. Like Ashley said, maybe more communication will occur and you can help him to help her. I was very skinny as a child, didn't plump up until high school and it took off from there. But I remember the "fat kids" always getting teased at school, and today (as I hear it from my DD) kids are meaner now than before.

So where are the rest of the Sistahs? delilah, stamp, splash, 2princes 1princess: ? I know where SeaSpray is, I just talked to her on the phone! Hope everyone is doing well with their plans/WOE.

Time for bed. More running tomorrow. Gotta keep up the pace on the exercise challenge.

Oh, sorry to hear about the pool. It's still hot as the blue blazes here -- where are you that it's nice and cool??

I'm here but moping - I sent my oldest off to Kindergarten today. Lots of tears from me - none from him. BOO HOO

But, I did lose 2.5 pounds in my first week, so that's something!!

Good Morning, Sistahs!

I caught a cold so I feel pretty crappy  but I did manage to exercise for 40 minutes last night. Today maybe a different story since I feel worse.

Vern and Ashley thanks for the concern for my little cousin. I doubt her father will keep in touch because he only calls when he needs something or he will keep in touch with us for awhile and then bam one day no more contact. We were really close when we were kids and teenagers and then one day he just changed. His parents and sister are like that too. I just pray that one day before its too late he will wake up and realize what he is doing to his kids by not helping them live a healthy life!

Vern glad to hear you are ok. Closing the pool was always a sad time for me as a kid because that meant summer was over. (I miss having one now) I see you over on the exercise challenge and girl you are exercising it up! Keep up the good work!

2P&1P - Congrats on the 2.5! :cool1:

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello Everyone!

I have been so busy this last week. I didn't even realize it had been a week until I read the posts! Last Wednesday my DH cut the back of his hand at work, and completely cut the tendon to his index finger. He had surgery this morning to repair it. He's hand is doing okay, it's the other post-op stuff that is the problem...nausea. Last Thursday my DS broke his glasses, so we had to go for new glassess yesterday. Not to mention we had a family reunion on Saturday and there was food everywhere. Today was my weigh in day, and I didn't lose or gain, I stayed the same. Which is really okay considering my week and the fact that I only excersised once :)

I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well, keep up the good work!
Have a great evening tonight Sistahs!:flower3:

Hi everyone:

I got back from New Jersey yesterday and I think I've GAINED A FEW POUNDS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? :scared1: :sad1: :sad2:  My regular scale is at work so I can't even be sure, but I've weighed myself on a different scale we have and I forget how much difference in weight they show, but I THINK it's showing that I gained like 4 pounds!! I WILL KILL MYSELF!! (not really, but you know what I mean!!). UGH Only a week and a half left in the stupid weight loss contest at work, I've been in the LEAD all this time (2 1/2 months) and now I GAIN WEIGHT?!??! :scared1: :faint: And then last night by the time I got home and DH got home from work I was starving so what do we do? I ordered quesadillas and chicken parm dinner from a local restaurant. You have no idea how angry I am at myself for eating what I shouldn't have eaten all weekend (not every meal was bad, but enough of it was!!!), and then order bad stuff last night!

Arg... sorry for the vent... I'm gonna go cry now.... :sad1:

Good Morning, Sistahs!

I think my cold is finally starting to go away! Now maybe I can get some exercise in so I can keep up on the challenge.

Splash sorry to hear about your husband's accident. pixiedust: for a speedy recovery.

Seaspray Welcome back! I hope you had a nice trip. Don't beat yourself up we all have our bad days. Just get back on the wagon (:rotfl: ) and you'll lose those few pound you may have gained and then some! Good luck.

To all my other sistahs I hope you are well!

Have a great day!

Hey Sistahs!!

Splash-Hope your DH is doing well. My DH hurt his foot last Labor Day (dropped the new countertop on it). I know what it is like to deal with a hubby who has a big boo-boo:sick: I needed the Lortab more than he did I think LOL.

SeaSpray-Welcome back from the shore!! It was great talking to you and Christie the other night. I got the picture of you with your mugs!!! Love it! Don't worry about the weigh in-I bet you are still in the lead and even if you had a small gain, you will be right back on track soon!

LaLaRoo-Sorry about your cold. I find that exercising makes me feel better, but that's just me.

Weighed in this morning-down 1.6 more pounds!!! I have 20 days to lose 3.2 pounds before our trip to WDW. A weigh in in the 160's before my trip would be completely AWESOME, but all I really want is to see 170.0 on Sept. 12th.

Next week we are off at my office but I am temping at other offices to make money for my Disney trip. So my schedule will be totally out of whack. It is going to adversely affect my exercise schedule. 3 days I have to be at the office at 7am and it is 30 minutes away. But I am going to try my hardest to make my exercise goal.

Weather here in upstate NY has been yucky in the last few days-jeans and sweatshirts!!! But today is supposed to warm up considerably and 90 degrees is predicted for the weekend.

Hope everyone is well and doing good on their plans.

See ya later!!
