I am a volunteer at Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, FL, where I work 2 mornings a week with Mickey and Minnie who come to have their pictures taken with families of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Recently a family came through with autograph books specifically created for their children and they mentioned that they were handmade and thought they were somehow connected to the DIS forums. In addition to the handmade autograph books their children received 4 handmade "Disney" costumes.

Can anyone help me locate this group or organization?

It wasn't me, but i LOVE this idea and would be willing to make some for a family under these circumstances.....do you know how I could do that? Who could I contact? What a wonderful idea!!! :goodvibes

I know who you are speaking of. The mother of the "gifted" child had a Pre Trip Report here and received many things from the "DIS Boarders Great Give" (exact name?). I will pull the links and post them here for you. They are a great group of people paying it forward with their talents and generosity. (I am so in awe of them, that I am ordering a bunch of stuff from one of them for my up coming trip.)

Back in a flash...

Hi Goody! I'm from the DisBoutique board. Are you looking for the Member that made the autograph books? (aren't they awesome?).

Here is our thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1885666

We ban the family from our board until they get back from Vacation. Otherwise they can see what we are working on.

Hope to see you at the Boutique thread.

Looks like you guys got everything covered!

I went on a hunt for the autograph books the other day and finally found them! I can't wait to personalize some myself.

Can you tell me what kind of books you found to use? I am having a hard time find books. I want to make a bulk amount to send to a organization, the way I currently make them would take far too long.

clutterbug, whom probably made the ones you saw, found hers at the dollar store. So I went on my hunt. I think I found something similar to hers, especially after seeing the ribbons at the top. But it is a thick cardboard type cover, but mine has a spot for a picture, not sure what I'll do with it, cover it, work around it, etc. Inside are cardboard pages, but I think she cut cardstock and stuck in. Then of course decorated the front.

My theory is that I can even just use the one I bought for a template and cut from cardboard myself. Cut pages from cardstock and it all ties with a ribbon.

I never saw the inside as to whether or not there was anything on the pages and I was trying to decide if I wanted to do that or not.

Sally, thanks for pointing me to this thread.

Yes, I made those albums. The albums that Jessica found at the Dollar Store were exactly what I used for my base. I used the chipboard pages from the inside to cover the photo slot on the outside. Feel free to PM me if anyone has any questions. Also, there are tons of mini albums available to be altered/customized, I just don't have any place local to buy them and I didn't have a lot of time.

There are many wonderful Disboutiquers who are making these Big Gives a reality. If you have a talent to share, please come join us!

Here is the PreTrip report of the family who I am thinking you saw

Autograph books came from : DISid: "Clutterbug"

Are these the books?

These are the very books I saw. I spoke briefly with the parents after the kids had their pictures taken with Mickey and Minnie and I was so excited because I wanted to take part in making books too. Thank you so much for the information.

I have made very simple autograph books on my computer to pass out to the kids who have none of their own. However, because we have close to 80 to 100 children at each photo session, I cannot possibly make enough for all of them, since we do these photo sessions twice a week.

I look forward to making more elaborate books for individual kids. This will be so much fun! Thanks again for all the information.

I dont think this is the same thing, but on the swap boards I will be hosting a Make A Wish autograph book swap. One for a girl and one for a boy. I have bought 2 8x8 disney albums already. If you are interested I will be having signups on August 17. My wish coordinator is very thrilled with the idea.

Do you have a link? I'm not very good at the scrap book stuff, but I'd love to see what you are doing. We have a thread, DisBoutique, and the group signs up to add Pixie Dust to the MAW thread.

I have not opened the signups yet. Not till August 17. So check on the swap board here around that time. It is a very open swap without a lot of specific requirements, just something for the Make A Wish kids to enjoy at Disney.

I've been looking around the autograph pages and thinking I might get motivated sometime to do this. Kirsta is almost out of the age of customs. And I have a little neice to sew for. So this might be a good fill in.

There is also a group on themouseforless dot com making scrapbooks for Give Kids the World village - they need 1000 pages by December which would be a 10 page scrapbook for each family one week (there are 100 villas).

With a Cricut, it's pretty easy to turn out 100 pages in a few hours - You can pick your title or embelli and set the fill function to get a whole page of them while you're doing something else.

So far I've made Splish Splash double pages - could hold water park, hotel pool, spray ground, or sea world photos, What a Bunch of Characters double pages - could be characters from any park - or the family members themselves, and now doing It's a Jungle double pages- which could hold Jungle cruise or Animal kingdom photos.

You found the boards!!! How cool that I was just talking to you a few days ago at GKTW!! We have so enjoyed these autograph books. Amy/Clutterbug, I cannot even begin to guess how many comments/compliments we received on them! So many of the characters noticed them and really inspected them. And now both books are almost completely full. In fact, I think Shay Lynne's is full. Somehow Clay has a few extra pages in his, although the exact same characters signed both. I think it's because some of Clay's pages are signed front and back, and Shay Lynne was pretty bossy about where she wanted them to sign! But thank you once again. I need to post an update on my PTR, but I am so very tired as we've just been home for a few minutes.

I'm just thrilled that the books worked out well for the kids, I was so nervous that they would fall apart or something.

Clay's book may very well have had a few more pages. Megan helped me cut and punch them and I think she had a few OOPS! pages that didn't go in the books.

The pages are very simple - they need to be when making 50 - 100 of the same page.

Splish Splash can be used for Water park or pool or sprayground, or even Seaworld photos

It's a Jungle could be Animal Kingdom Photos, or Jungle cruise - or crowd photos,

The diecuts on the jungle page are a little fancier, but they still weren't very time consuming - I assembled and highlighted them while watching tv.

I hope some of y'all will decide to make pages for Give Kids the World, too. If you'd like to know more about the kind of families who make these trips, please visit the "Wish trip" thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1606643 or read a couple of the heartwrenching trip reports. There are links to other Wish Trip reports in the first post of the thread above.

I  the children
