Need help- German Food- for school activity

My second grader was assigned Germany as a country of study. On Friday, she is expected to bring a food that represent this country and I need help. I would prefer something like a baked good or candy.

Does anyone have any ideas and receipes?

Something typical from Germany are the Leibniz Butterkekse by bahlsen. I don't know if they are sold in the states. they are some kind of buttercookies with a specific form.

The cookie is somewhat dry to eat alone so it is often used to make a cake, one layer of cookies then you put on some buttercreme (butter mixed with melted chocolat) and then again a layer of cookies.

Apfelstrudel is also very popular in Germany. it is like an apple pie.

And then everything with caramel, just think about the Karamelküche shop at Epcot.
Around christmas time they have a cake like Gingerbread it is called Lebkuchen.

I know you said bakery, but...my son had to do Germany also when he was in school. I also wanted to keep it easy and clean for the teacher (no cutting, serving, clean up) and easy for son to carry. So I bought a package of bratwurst, cooked them up, and sliced into bite sized chunks. Sent that along with a box of toothpicks for picking pieces. Big hit!

My daughter had Germany when she was in school too- I sent in-Pfeffernüsse (German Spice Cookies)- I bought them in the food store already made. I absolutely hate those projects, it came at a time that I was insanely busy that week so no way could I be cooking things to send in. Now they stopped all those things because we have some crazy food policy and unless its fruit, or water and prepackaged from the food store you can't bring it in.

I wrapped the whole thing in foil. So, they weren't "off the grill" hot, but they weren't refrigerator cold, either.

Hmm, I might try this. Friday is a time for parents to come in and see the projects so it is a 1/2 day activity but we are expected to send the items in with the child in the morning. My husband is going to go at 11:30 during his lunch time-he works close to the school.

I am thinking that even room temperature they still should be good right? I may also send in some kind of dessert I can buy- I know that 2 students have peanut allergies so I would prefer something pre package. I would hate to be the person who causes a severe allergy to occur.

Haribou Gummi Bears. If you have an Aldi's store near you, many of their candy and chocolates come from Germany. Also, cookies, breads, crackers, etc.
