Hello All

Sorry this is going to be a long questions but I have gotten so much great info here that I know the DVC experts can help! :thumbsup2 Anyway, DH and I are seriously considering buying into DVC. It is a bit of a financial stretch for us but doable. Now with the increased costs of EVERYTHING I feel this might be a good time to buy in so that we can ensure two quality vacations a year (DH and I both have very stressful jobs and this is important to us). We are going to WDW in the fall and were going to take the tour (for the second time) and probably commit then. However, I just got one of the checks from my Disney visa for a 2.99% APR for the life of a loan. DH and I think we can pay it off in a timeframe we would feel comfortable with. So here are the questions:

1. Can I buy over the phone or do I have to take the tour? How does buying over the phone work?

2. Has anyone used one of these Visa checks? Any issues?

3. How do you all feel about the lack of mousekeeping? Personally, I don't use chemical cleaning products due to health concerns so for me the reduced mousekeeping may be a bonus :confused3

5. Does getting a referral provide any benefit?

6. How do I get over the uneasiness of such a big purchase? :scared1: We have really thought this out - we have been going twice a year for the past few years and anticipate taking at least one trip a year in the future.

Thanks so much!

Hi wishiwereindisney. I'll try a few...

1) You can probably do it over the phone, but there may still be a few states that don't allow it.

2) I haven't used a Visa check, but I doubt there would be issues.

3) Most here were initially weary (sp?) of no housekeeping, but most have come to like it better. No rush or schedule to follow in the AM...

5) Only for the referrer...

6) Have a cold beer, preferably Sam Adams...
Then, if you really are going to continue visiting WDW in the future, think of all the Sam Adams you can buy with the loot you saved on accommodations.. :drinking:

Good luck!! :smokin:

MG

PS- What happened to #4?? I feel out of balance.. :teeth:

I'm curious if you will get points with the Disney Check? I can't remember. DH was considering living off our Disney Visa (just him, I'm not so disciplined, LOL)and paying it off every month, and then using all those points to pay our maintainence fees.

We received additional incentives for using someone from these boards as a referral when we made our original purchase a few years ago. Just depends on what is being offered at the time you purchase.

we got the points for the deposit for a car purchase, while we waited or the money to transfer to our checking account, then paid it off. You can get up to 400 a year i think.

1 yes you can buy over the phone I did it last week.

2 I use them all the time for my business (Not a Disney visa) but they work out great for me. Never an issue.

3 Don't know because we have not used our DVC yet. But I
m kind of a neat freak so they never have to do much in my room anyway.

4 where's your four .....?:rotfl:

5 can't answer that one for ya.

6 it's the price of a used car, but this one will last 49 years:thumbsup2

You can only purchase directly from Disney over the phone if your state of residence allows it. Your guide will know - if he/she has been in previous telephone contact with you, then your state allows it.

AFAIK, there are no state of residence restrictions on purchasing a resale contract.

DVC only includes lodging. Assume you have factored in the cost of transportation, food, park tickets and souvenirs into your afordablility planning.

I do not recommend that anyone finance a timeshare purchase. Given your uneasiness, consider waiting until you can pay cash or at least make a very large downpayment. Perhaps begin saving the monthly amount you would need to allocate to DVC (includig all the other costs) and see how easily it fits into your budget.

Good luck with your decision.

I don't think you get rewards points if you pay with a Disney Visa check- you have to actually use the card.
