I arrive in Orlando on Sunday at 8:00 AM. I had a private car set up to take me right to MK to meet up with family that is arriving earlier. The company just called and cancelled my transfer due to the marathon. They said they won't drive to WDW that morning and no one else will either?? They said even the cabs will be stuck in marathon traffic. I'm wondering what to do?? I'm trying to get to MK as quickly as possible. I have a reservation at AoA so I could use ME but I don't want to have to go to AoA first. Could I use ME for a resort I am not booked at--take it to the CR?? Any other ideas?? TIA!!! :)

You can't take DME to a resort that you're not registered at. I'm curious though what you were going to do with your luggage if you were going to take a private car directly to MK. Even if you're just doing carry-on, I don't think the lockers at MK are big enough, and unless they have ones outside the entrance, I don't think they'll let you through the gates with luggage.

Can you get a taxi or ride to any of the monorail resorts? Or to WL and take a boat to MK?

If you did that, you could probably get them to hold your luggage there, and retrieve it later.

Honestly...

I think that taking DME and then taking disney transportation to MK *is* going to be your fastest way.

Even though it's a Half marathon, not a Full, it's going to scramble traffic going into the area quite a bit. A 16 minute mile has people finishing at 9. But it's 16 min/mile from when the runner crosses the start line, so someone in the last corral is starting WELL after the first person across the line would finish even at 16 min/mile. They are finishing in Epcot, but there's going to be a backup, and the Disney buses are going to be the ones who get to use back routes if they have back routes. Everyone on-site for these events is urged strongly to use Disney transportation.

Good point.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I actually sent my luggage ahead with my daughter so I only have a purse!! :) I think I am going to have to try and be patient and just get there when I get there. But with just one day in the MK I am trying to get there as early as I can!!!

I would take a cab to Contemporary Resort and walk on the path to the Magic Kingdom. While it might take the cab some extra time, you wouldn't have to wait for any internal transportation system. I'm going to guess that the road to Contemporary won't be that congested but I've never been down there for a marathon!

Here is a link to the course. Notice the roads used.

They start at 5:30. There will be people crossing the start line at 6, maybe even later. Those people can run a 16 minute mile and be fine. That means 3.5 hours after those last people start, they can still be finishing up.

I wish I could remember last month's Half better to tell you if there were cars coming into the MK area as us slowpokes were leaving (I ended up with a 15 minute/mile average...I was sick as a dog and very motivated because I just wanted to curl up and die somewhere)...it looks like the same course or very close.

Just remember that a cab is going to charge you for just sitting there, so if you're stuck, you're paying for every minute.
