I need help finding the owner or even the state the owner of enmob . com This place sent my son an unsolicted text message saying he had to immediately send back a text message that said "STOP" or he'd be charged $9.99 for text alert messages.

I told him to delete the message thinking it was like the phishing emails or the bogus emails we get from places pretending to be PayPal or such businesses. 2 minutes later he checks his balance (he has his own pre-pay cell phone) and this company has stolen $9.99. I had him call his carrier and they said he'd have to call enmob and gave him this number 1-888-648-9524
That number has a recording (all night long) saying they have a high volume of calls and to go to their website and click support which does nothing either but take a message.

Thanks to anyone that can help or make suggestions. I'm thinking the my State Attorney General will be contacted by me about this.

I would call the Attorney General and the FTC in your area asap.

Ok, now I'm curious. Hope this is easily fixed. Let us know what happens.

Wow!!! :sad2:
He was ripped off by a text message....what a scam!!!:scared1:

Most certainly call the AG and I would call back and argue with my carrier. How can they allow that....:confused3

Probably won't do any good at this point, but maybe if you paid your bill with a credit card, notify your credit card company IN WRITING that this is a disputed charge.
Google these thieves, you'll probably find a lot of folks in the same boat. See if any of them are getting traction.
Contact any/all media types - local, regional, national, especially any consumer reporters.
Contact the FBI.
Contact the FTC.
Cancel the pre-paid cell phone (if possible).
Tell all your DIS friends, all 130,000+ of us, the pre-paid cell-phone company's name. PLEASE.

agnes!

What is the name of your son's mobile company? I wouldn't want to do business with a company that would be allowing this to happen with no recourse!

The carrier is Verizon. And I called the phone number listed above and got a foreign accented person who after I started explaining the problem said he was only an answering service employee. But could give me no good time to call, no name for the answering service or any other information.

I'm going to call Verizon myself during my lunch. I did Google Enmob and found a cingular customer with the same problem and Cingular credited his account so that tells me that Verizon has the capability to fix this.

I'll update later if I get anywhere. Thanks booger73 for finding that info for me.

Well I couldn't find a good number to call for Verizon so I did their online complaint and received this reply:

Dear Jen,

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website.

Jen, I appreciate the inquiry regarding you son's account, and I am
happy to assist you.

The charges you are referring to are the result of a Premium SMS (short
messaging service). A Premium SMS is a text message subscription that
was enabled from your handset or online and is provided by a third-party
vendor. Since Verizon Wireless is not the provider of this service, we
are unable to stop the charges or cancel the service.

When downloading a Premium SMS application, the application will either
send a message back to the your cellular phone that explains the
premium fees and when they will be triggered, and asks them to reply
affirmatively to accept the charges, ending a confirmation messages with Y or
YES in the message body. You also have the ability to set up Premium SMS
applications online.

In order to cancel your subscription, please reply to the premium SMS
Message from the company you wish to cancel, and include the following
command: "Stop All" You should receive a reply confirming your request.
If you do not receive the TXT Message, try a different command such as:
"QUIT," "STOP," or "END."

Another option to prevent these messages from being sent to your mobile
phone is for us to remove the text-messaging feature from your account.
Keep in mind once the feature is removed, you will not be able to send
or receive any text messages. Please reply to this email if you would
like us to remove the text feature from your account. Amanda, we value
your business and appreciate the opportunity to continue as your
wireless service provider. Should you have additional questions or concerns,
please reply to this email.

You can access your prepay account information online at
www.vzw.com/myprepay. You can also replenish your account or contact Customer
Service Department through our automated system by dialing *611 from your
wireless phone. If you have any further questions please write to us
again through our www.vzw.com website.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Obviously this is a canned response since he starts out calling me Jen then changes to Amanda in the 6th paragraph. I emailed him a reply asking him to do his job and skip the canned response and actually look at my son's account. It has only the one Premium SMS message which charged him $9.99. If my son had responded with a PIN number there would have been a reply text to that one. I have completed an online complaint with the BBB where the Verizon Wireless Prepay complaint address is located and am going to file an online complaint with the State Attorney General next. I also used Google Local to find the address booger73 came up with for Enmob and it's located on the island Nevis which is south of Puerto Rico. Thus the foreign accented person I got when I called the number listed. I don't see how Verizon can not stop the scam artist when they would have to have some way to forward my money on to them.

This place sent my son an unsolicted text message saying he had to immediately send back a text message that said "STOP" or he'd be charged $9.99 for text alert messages.

I used to have some premium text message services(mostly for betting on football) and without saying your son is being untruthful, it does sound like he had already signed up and that was the final point of no return.

I had some send a strikingly similar text AFTER I had signed up online and AFTER I had already sent them a TEXT approving the charge.

We've gotten no where with this problem. After calling Verizon again we were told to call a different number. That person informed me they were simply the company that provides the technology for companies such as enmob. They sent me an email.........with the same info as on the enmob site about calling their customer service number which is the recording and refers you to the website.

BTW Anewman he did not sign up for this so called service. He was sitting next to me when he got the message. As for the info you pulled from their website.....try calling that number listed......day or night you'll get a recording!!!! It's a bogus number that only has a recorded message and the number listed under the website owner info booger73 found is a supposed employee of an answering service that has never heard of Nevis Mobile.....even though he most likely lives on the island Nevis.

this happenned to me. your first line of defense is to call your wireless carrier (mine is verizon) and they will cancel the charges---dial 611 from your cell phone--or the cell that the texts are coming in on. we never ordered the service, and do not know how or why they got our number. your son is not lying and this has happened to alot of people i know. when you text 'stop', the message will fail. don't go to the website or call enmob, that will perpetuate the trouble. do complain to the fcc and the better business bureau, and anyone else you can think of. we got 10 messages before we realized we were getting them (my husband doesn't even know from test messages or how to view or send them). we called verizon and they deleted the charges and stopped test messages from that phone, whick is ok because we don't use that feature, but if you like to use your test messaging, then this can be a problem. you may be able to block the texts from that number (enmob) from your phone. also, send a 'spam complaint' to the administrator of company who provides the website for enmob, you can get this email address and more info by looking at a site called dns stuff (google the name and you will find it). you can find out if any siteor email are legit or not using this site. it is (dnsstuff.com)scroll all the way down the page and see the features it has.
i don't know how enmob can get away with this, but verizon, cingular, and all the other companies are powerfull enough to stop it provided they are not the ones that instituted it in the first place. i was steaming mad when if found out that verizon even allows this. it is a scam!
good luck and kudos to you for your research and action!

oops, the dnsstuff website is only really usale for spam emails on a pc--though it is a good site to use to find out if an email is legit---if you look at the full headers in your emails, you get the ip number of the sender and enter in on dnsstuff to find out if the email is spam, who what and where 'info' about a particular email sender---it won't help in this instance (enmob) but is usefull in other situations with regular pc emails.

btw--we went to the enmob site, called the number and got the same crap you did. if you go to the site, be carefull--it looks all professional, but don't allow cookies and really, just don't even go back, it is all a rip off designed to get your money. i am amazed at how many people from all over the world can think up new ways to use your own possesions to rip you off!

funny how the name 'enmob' reminds one of 'enron'....

anyways, i went to the enmob site and looked well at the small print and at the bottom of the page is a place where you can send them a complaint or a message, whatever---i go to the page and the first thing they want is your phone number (hah) of course i did not enter a legit phone number--then they want your email address--oh no, you'r not gettin' that! without entering any of my personal info, i sent them a message along these lines"

...."shame on you for your bad business practices---you have a nice service that with proper advertising you can make money, but no, instead you sent unsolicited messages to innocent kids and disabled people---so when they have to cut off their own text messaging feature to keep you off their phones, they won't be able to use the texting for any reason. deaf people, students at university (remember virginia tech? they need alerts to protect from potential tragedy), and kids who need to reach/hear from their parents are gravely inconvenienced because of your dirty practices. not to mention taking money from people who are on tight budgets and need every penny just to keep a roof over thier head and food on the table for their kids AND the huge waste of time on phone calls and internet searches to find out why and how to stop this crap! clean it up! i know of at least 10 people who are hunting for your head through the proper sources (fcc, bbb, etc) to put you out of business! CLEAN IT UP!"

i felt better after typing that, whether it reaches them or not and whether or not they read it is another thing.
i know i said to stay away from the site, but i am a pc geek who knows how to detect and keep the bad stuff out of my pc from the internet...i don't doubt they have something underhanded in place---but they can't hurt me anymore. i suspect that it you sign up for something legit that requires your cel phone number on the internet, it somehow makes it's way to enmob or another like site and that it how this happens. i think that even if you never visited the enmob sit or never gave them your cel number, they have figured out a way to get that info and send these unsolited services and charges. i did more research and there are alot of people on the internet complaining about this same site and problem. as you can see i am obsessed with getting some closure and satisfaction. i am like a pit bull when it comes to a breach of my privacy and charges for something i never signed up for.

ok, i feel better now, i hope you do to.
let us know how it turns out!

This is really scary, and the phone company should NOT be allowing this to happen. Passive enrollment is ridiculous to start with, but when you add the charge into it, it's outrageous. :scared1:
