I'm in search of a good table and chair set for my son (20 months). He's too small to sit at kitchen table and color/play. Lately he's been sitting on top of the coffee table ontop of a pillow (he's a nutjob).

I've been looking in our local goodwill's, salvation army's and thrift stores, but haven't found anything. I'm thinking of hitting Toy's R Us this weekend, but was hoping maybe someone may have some recommendations.

Thanks!!!!!

Have you thought about getting a booster seat for him?

Our "high chair" is actually a chair that you strap on to a regular chair. It has a tray to be used as a high chair, but you can also take the tray off and use it as a booster seat. I think it was $30 or so, but I'm sure they sell regular booster seats, too.

We got DS an art desk for Christmas (he was 2 1/2 years old at the time), but I doubt that's something your son could use now since he's still kinda young.

costco! I have the cutest little kids table/chairs from there. very reasonable, very well made.

We got our DD a Little Tykes table and chair set when she was about your DS's age. It's made out of plastic but it's really strong yet light weight. DH or I used to sit in the extra chair with her all the time and didn't have any problems. We've had to for over 4 years and it still looks new. We got it at Toys R Us and I think it cost around $40.

Check craigslist.org for your area -- I've found some good used kids stuff on craigslist!

IKEA has really cute kids tables & chairs. I've never ordered online but that is an option if you don't have a store close by.

A few years ago I bought a very nice Fisher Price table/chairs set from TOYS R US. It was in primary colors & came with 2 chairs. I was even able to order an extra 2 chairs (came in very handy for playgroup).

Little Tikes also makes some very nice, durable, easy to clean sets.

Thanks so much for all the replies. Looks like I've got some searching to do now that I have some more ideas of places to look :)

Lakeshore Learning has awesome ones!

And there are very durable, they supply school equipment

The chairs come in SO many heights, for children of different ages

pottery barn kids is where i would looik

You can get a folding table with adjustable legs. It can be preschool height up to standing height. We bought one for DD12 when she was about 4, and still use it now as an extra table at Thanksgiving. We got ours at Costco or BJ's, but office supply places have them, too.
