OMG - your story is great! Your dd sounds exactly how mine would be, she's in 4th grade now and still gets sad about "old did," a security blanket we lost when she was 4. I'm sooooooo happy for both of you!

Thanks for allowing me to revisit this thread. My DD is still thrilled that Old Minnie is home. I actually feel sorry for Old Minnie as she has been slept on every night since she "got back". She's actually had to go for a spin in the washer already! But every time I see her it feels right that she is back.

This is such a heart warming story. I can so relate to your DD. I had a Minnie in a green dress that was my special stuffed animal from when I was little.

Well, it's been several months since Old Minnie has rejoined the family fold. Christmas was wonderful as she was back in the pictures again and even got several presents from my DD (so cute). Old Minnie has made two trips to WDW already and my DD has shown her all the things that have changed since she went away. One of the other members here sent me pictures he took of his Minnie (which was the same one) at Niagra Falls and in Arizona which are now hanging on the wall in a special frame that my DD made with the caption "Old Minnie's Great Adventure". But the greatest thing about having Old Minnie back is what my DD said to me a few nights ago. Old Minnie stands in for you when you aren't home. If I get hurt and cry, she let's me use her dress to wipe my tears. If I'm lonely she'll play with me and if I'm mad I can yell at her and she keeps right on smiling at me. But my favorite thing was when she asked me how the "other family" knew where to send her when she was ready to come back because as my DD put it, Old Minnie never talked to anyone but her. My DD is 9, exceptionally gifted and doing 5 grade work when she should only be in 3rd grade but in this one part of her life she is such a little girl and I absolutely cherish this for her.

I just wanted to give you all an update since everyone thought this was such a great story.

What a great story. I still have my first Minnie and Mickey I ever got. I was 4 and they are baby mice on all fours in little diapers with booties with pacifiers. As for toy obsession, I had a lamb named Love-a-lot (no idea where the name came from). I remember losing him one night when i was 3 or 4 and not being able to sleep at all that night. i was so upset. We did find him the next day though and I still have my ratty lamb.
Even cooler, I have my grandfather's teddy from 1912. It is missing an arm and an eye and is ratty as anything, but I feel grateful to have possession of it!

when i first started to read this i thought i hope you managed to put a photo on as i have quite a few minnies (and many many more mickeys), then I read on and got the full story and then realised it was an older thread.

What a great story! I love EBAY for finding lost treasures!!! I bought my "baby doll charleen" (which I carried everywhere as a little kid).. anyhow one of my cousins sat on her and broke her and as a 30 year old I bought her a new body. I also found (thanks to a VERY nice Disboard member) a doll that matched another ragdoll I had named "Happy". I bought her with my own money and always wanted to buy the matching "Joy" doll. I posted here and someone was able to find an ebay listing that I missed....

I'm so glad you all have enjoyed our little story of Old Minnie. We just returned from a rather hectic trip to PA involving 5 nights and three different hotels with two long days of flying. Old Minnie went along in my DD's purse (had to have one big enough for her to fit in or DD didn't want it) and sat in her lap on the plane then was held high enough so she could watch take off and landing just like DD. She even went to my nephews wedding and sat in her lap so she could watch them exchange vows. The cutest thing though was that on the flight up my DD read Old Minnie a section in her Manners book about attending a wedding so neither one of them would do anything inappropriate. It was just way too funny. As much as I enjoy watching DD grow up, this little part of her that remains young is so wonderful.

And, although many of you have said that I am a great mom, I really don't think I have done anything that most of you wouldn't have done. That's the one thing I have noticed on this site, most of us seem to have our values in the right place.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback. I intend to show this thread to my DD someday when she's old enough and no longer thinks of Old Minnie as being real. I hoope that day doesn't come for a very long time but I know it will.

I agree with you about it being so special when your child holds onto a piece of their innocence and youth. My daughter is approaching 11 and in many aspects, she seems to have outgrown her youth. However, we were watching the P&PP fireworks last Friday, and I glanced over to see her holding her Stitch stuffed animal up so he could watch too. She even pointed to a special part that she liked as if to show Stitch where to look. I wish I could've taken a picture, but I didn't want to disturb the moment. I want to hang on to those moments for as long as I can.

What a great story. My daughter had a blanket she became very attached to as an infant and took everywhere. She had left/ dropped it several times in stores etc. The pink blanket was made of fine woven stings and was essentially a ball of knotted white strings from the frequent laundering.
I was always amazed we always got it back. It must have always been found by a mom. A mom can always recognize a favorite blankie for what it is, instead of trash. The blanket was always handed back with the comment I knew someone would be frantically looking for this. The blanket is now safely stashed in a chest with our photo albums and treasures. My daughter is 12 and still gets excited when she finds the blanket(nothing more than a small ball of threads) when we are strolling down memory lane.. She always asks for it back. I tell her how special it is and ask her, doesn't she want to keep it safe. It immediately goes back into the chest. Someday I plan to make into something special, for something old, on her wedding day.

FOr those of you who followed this little saga I thought I would share this weekends event. My DD who is now 11 had a friend over from school. Her friend asked her why she had pictures of Minnie in the desert on her wall. My DD explained to her the whole story of Minnie being taken by someone at school and then miraculously being returned to her a few years later, and how a week or so after that the pictures of Minnie on her adventure arrived. I happened to be walking by the door so I stopped to listen. Her friend had this look of complete disbelief on her face and started to say something then looked at my face, which must have looked horrified, and stopped. She just smiled and said how nice it was that my DD got Minnie back. This is the same little girl that told my daughter at Christmas that there was no Santa and my DD told her there was and she just had to believe in the Magic of Christmas. Anyway, just a little update.

I just saw your post for the first time, I read OP and then saw the date and proceed to the last page to see the update. I did not read the whole thing yet but I am glad everything worked out just fine. It so good when kids believe in magic and Santa. Me and my sister planed to run away to the North Pole to meet Santa when we were kids and the only thing stopping us was, do not lough, we did not know where is north and we could not find a compass back then. I remember crying in disbelieve when my mother finally told me there is no Santa. When it was my turn to bring it to my DD, I just said nobody saw him but does not mean he does not exist. Believing in magic is a beautiful thing.

Wow, neat! As the one who provided the pix of Minnie in the desert, it is wonderful to hear that she still believes and enjoys telling that story. "Our" Vintage Minnie is still enjoying a prominent location in DD6's room, she even made a guest appearance on our Christmas Card this past year. But DDs heart now belongs to Mickey...she tells her friends "Mickey's My Boy!" - a quote from Stacey on the old Disney's Top 7 - and last trip she brought him a drawing of a turtle (complete with hidden Mickeys!). We finally got a stuffed Mickey this last trip to go with Minnie, and he's been a frequent traveling companion of late.
