My sis is on her way to see me, and her flight's been cancelled. She is really sick, and I am trying to get her on another flight, because I KNOW I read somewhere that an airline is responsible to get her on the next available flight, no matter what airline it is. The flight was not cancelled for weather, or anything like that... they just rerouted the plane. Now, they want to put her on one of their flights in 3 hours, but she's so sick! She can barely talk. I don't want her sitting in the airport sick. There are 3 other flights leaving sooner, on American Air, Delta, and Alaskan, but they are saying that AirTran (her original flight) only works with US Airways. Can they do that? What's the name of the rule that requires them to put her on another flight? PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm so sorry to hear your sister is so sick and is having these issues!! I do believe that an airline is obligated to put a passenger on that particular airlines next flight, or one that is acceptable to the passenger. But, I don't think they have to accomodate the passenger on another airline. Your sister could ask for a refund and then try to book a flight with another airline, but I have the feeling that isn't what you would want to see.

If I'm not mistaken, according to thier Contract of Carriage, they are only obligated to put you on the next available flight on thier own airline, or whatever airline they codeshare with.

I just checked the web. AirTran does not post thier entire contract of carriage. Your Sister can ask for it, but.....Basically if they are getting her there the same day her options are limited... SORRY!

The other thing is are there even seats on the earlier flights. Lately every flight I have been on is FULL so in that case she may just be stuck.
