So, we have been planning a trip for March or May but then today I got a Ding fare for January for $54 one way. Should we do it? What is the weather like in January? Too cold? Is everything open and available? EEEEK...not sure what to do but this is an awesome fare!!

Well, I gotta tell ya, I'm in the same boat as you. Never been in January either. I'm planning to be there this Januray. But my parents have been that time of year a couple times already and they love it! Since going when it's so much less crowded, they won't go any other time of year again! I know what you mean though, I'd be flying out of NYC and the one way flight is $59! I can't believe how cheap it is! I'm gonna jump on it before it goes up! But I looked up the rehabs for January on Disney's website and the only significan thing I noticed was that Splash Mt looks like will be under refuribishment the last 2 weeks of January. Other than that, they still have parades, just not every day. Just have to look up when the paraded are gonna be. I'm really looking forward to going this time of year.

I'll be there Jan. 5-13th. I love going in January because it is less crowded and less hot. The average temp is about 70. It is cool in the mornings and at night so I usually have a hat and maybe gloves to wear. As far as refurbishments go-you got to take the good with the bad. It's good to be able to almost walk onto rides, but it is when they do shut some down for refurb. I know Buzz is closed in Jan. and I'm a little upset about that but there's nothing I can do about it. I'm just glad it's not Pooh.
Try going in Jan. once and see if you like it.

Lori

do not forget your gloves. we've been in january twice and both times experienced freezing cold temps in the morning.

we do like it though...super low crowds and no heat! can't wait to get back in 3 wks!

They have some good rates you have to book by the 18th. There are a couple of rides closed splash mountain, buzz, test track. We are staying at all star movies our pool is closed. Pack a little of everything. We went the same time last year and one day we could wear shorts the next day pants it is a hit of miss.

We love to go in January and wouldn't go at any other time!! I have been every season, and this month is my favorite. To us anyway, everyday over 60 degrees is swimming weather (though of course, we are from New England and 60 is shorts and t-shirt weather) We even plan to do a water park this year.
Crowds are low, and the temps are perfect to be able to walk around all day comfortably. DS5 tends to complain in humidity, so I can't see bringing him at any other time.
The heaviest clothes we bring are sweatshirts and pants, and these we have only used in the mornings/at night when it gets chillier.
Most pools are also heated down there, so swimming is comfortable.
Go for it!!!

Well..darn. You guys got me all excited about the prospect of going in January but I was too late for the Ding fare. The flight home on the 6th-8th was fine but I couldn't get a flight out there early enough to have a decent length of a stay. The Ding fares were taken until the 4th. Oh well, maybe they will offer that awesome price again this week...then we will be packing our sweatshirts and heading out!!

We love to go in January. We usually go towards the end of the month but this year we will be arriving on the 15th. It's never been 'hot' when we were there in Jan but its a whole lot warmer than home! We usually wear jeans and t-shirts, sweatshirts for the early mornings and evenings but (knock on wood) we have never had to wear gloves. It depends a lot on what temps you are used to as well, here in NJ its only about 10 degrees :cold: right now so 50 would be pretty warm. I'm not sure where the OP is from but we got a great rate of $78 round trip from EWR on continental for our trip.

I've gone four times, all in January. Yes, it can get a bit chilly :cold: so pakcing sweaters, light glvoes and a winter hat is a must! But don't assume that you won't have any warm days. Also pack t-shirts, shorts, and sunscreen!!! (I've been bruend a few times...) :sunny:

Coming from cold, snowy (and icy) winters in Canda, Florida is really nice in comparison, even in jacket-weather.

Hope you have a great trip and we can't wait to hear all about it!

Hope I was of some help,
merfsko

We are going January 7 - 14!! Our first time - our two DD's will find out on Christmas morning - can't wait!!

I am so looking forward to experiencing Disney for the first time without the crowds and heat!

For all you veterans - is there a good on-line site to find out what rides, etc. will be closed for refurb?

www.allearsnet.com

that's where i found what will be closed for refurbishment.
i'm going the same dates as you and i found out that test track will be closed as of the 9th...so you know i'll be on it on the 8th....50s Primetime Cafe will be closed....i *think* Buzz will be closed, Typhoon Lagoon...closed, and Splash Mountain will close but not till the end of Jan. YAY

You just need to pack your clothes in layers for January. It is a great time to visit as far as crowds go!

We'll be there Jan 7-14th too. I have reservations for Primetime for the 8th. When I asked about it being closed for rehab I was told it wasn't closing until the 9th. I don't know about that but I guess we'll find out!
