Ok so...

My soon to be DH and I are vacationing in WDW in Oct 2015. We have an 8 day/7 night reservation.

My thought is should be add one night to the plan as a hotel only night, flying in on Saturday Oct 24th from Chicago. We would have to check out and then check back in on Sunday Oct 25th to Sun Nov 1st under our current reservation.

This seems to be logical to me so that we don't have to take a sun up flight the day our actual park passes begin. Flying in early would allow me to be a little more relaxed instead of worrying over it all.

What say you veterans of DIS?

Why can't you just book Oct 24-Nov 1 and just keep your passes to however many days you want?:confused1

Any day at WDW is a blessing and should be taken advantage of when possible.

On Sunday:
If you do NOT have to change resorts or types of rooms within a resort you should, have a "Travel with" notice placed on BOTH reservations, so that the CM doing room assignments will know that you would like to stay in the same room.
If you do have to change resorts or type of room:
Have your items packed and ready for pickup.
On move day call Bell Services to come and pickup your items.
Tell Bell Services which items are to be keep cold and which frozen, if any.
Go check-in to new resort and do whatever you have planned for the day.
When the room is ready and after @ 2-4 go to the room.
Call Bell Services of the check-in resort and they will deliver your items to the room.
You MUST be in the room for both the pickup and delivery.

WE are hoping for the free dining discount that historically happens the last week of October which would be October 25th thru November 1st. However if we check in under our current reservation on Saturday Oct 24th, we would not qualify for the discount.

So my thought was add a room only day on Sat Oct 24th and then use the 8 day/7 night resv. from Sun Oct 25th to Sun Nov 1st.

This way we will be able to take advantage of the discount should it appear in May '15 or so.

Looking on Mousesavers, the blackout dates seem to be different each of the last 3 years, so I wouldn't stress too much about it now, you can always change the reservation when the discount is announced. Last spring/summer, I stressed myself out over the possibility of free dining in October. Looking at the last few years, it should have been available the week I was going, but it changed to room only discount instead. Everything turned out fine (the room discount ended up being close to what we would have saved with free dining), so I wouldn't stress until it's at least a little closer. Just look forward to the trip and have fun planning the fun stuff for now. :)

I just did this last month. You will have to go to the check in desk and tell them you have "continuing" reservation - this is the term the CM called it. and they will take care of everything and you can stay in the same room.
