Need help deciding if I should get rid of my family's insurance

just this morning i started looking on the internet for some lower health insurance. my dh works at a place that only has like 7 employees so they don't offer any insurance. i have family bcbs that i pay $528 a month for and after reading this thread i'm feeling pretty good about my policy even though i'm paying a lot for it. i would never go without insurance but it is ridiculous!!

The respondent is mistaken, the birthday rule has to do with coordination of benefits, not who can carry the kids. http://www.businessplansinc.com/newsletter_do_you_know_the_birthday_rule.htm

That's correct. Also will your DH's company even LET him drop insurance?

My old company would NOT let us self insure. If we did not submit PROOF of other insurane the employee was required to take the insurance. (Granted it was a healthcare company and they figured if we didn't they would be stuck with the bill!)

Well...OP just forget what I said then. Evidently the companies in SW GA that I have worked for and my dh now works for are the only ones that have ever enforced this the way we had to do it. Sorry for any problems I have caused. I was just speaking from the way we had to handle things in MY family. Gee I thought that maybe others in the USA have gone through this as well and I was only trying to help. I worked at my job for only a couple of years after dd was born and and I no longer have this problem.

There are some funky changes going on...not a lot of people are seeing them yet...but here is my example:

DH's last company-
If I worked and had benefits available to me through my employer I could still elect to use my husbands insurance instead of paying for it through my employer BUT there would be a $75 per week administrative fee in addition to the weekly cost of $47 for the health insurance. If I carried my own insurance..because my birthday comes first I would have to cover the kids and DH's insurance would drop them.

OK...so I am NOT crazy on this!!!!!!!!!:cool1:
